Privacy Policy for Polyptych

Effective date: September 2, 2026

This privacy statement describes how David Galindo ("we") handles your information when you use the Polyptych app on iPhone and iPad.

The short version: nothing reaches us, and nothing reaches the internet. Your pictures do go to the other devices you deliberately connect — that is what the app is for.

Collection and Use

We do not collect, store or transmit any personal information. Polyptych has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. It needs no internet connection to work, and makes no requests to any server of ours.

Your Pictures and Videos

The pictures you choose are prepared and stored on your device, inside the app's own storage. A video you choose is copied into the app's own storage too. Neither is uploaded anywhere.

They are, however, sent to the other devices you connect to — that is how one picture can be shown across several screens at once. Those transfers happen directly between the devices on the local network, never through the internet or through us. Every device in a show receives every picture in it, or the whole video file; that is what lets the screens change together without waiting for the network.

A received video is kept in the app's cache on each device, and is removed when the show is replaced or the app is deleted.

Only connect devices you trust. Anyone holding the six-character code, or able to scan the QR code on the hosting device's screen, can join and will receive whatever is being shown.

Photo library access is used only when you pick pictures or a video to show. Polyptych never writes to your photo library.

Saved Shows

A show you save is written to a folder in the app's own Documents directory: a readable show.json describing the running order, alongside the pictures it uses. Those folders are visible to you in the Files app, and are removed when you delete the show or the app.

The Camera

Camera access is used only to scan the QR code that joins a show. Frames are analysed on your device to look for a code and are not recorded, stored or transmitted.

Devices That Are Not Apple Devices

Apple devices talk to each other over Apple's own local networking, which encrypts what passes between them. To let a device that cannot speak it — an Android phone, for instance — join a show, the hosting device also accepts a plain connection on the local network. That plain connection is not encrypted. Anyone able to watch traffic on the same network could read what crosses it.

This does not change what is sent or to whom, and nothing goes to the internet either way. It does mean the local network you are on is part of who you are trusting. The six-character code keeps two shows in the same room apart and stops a passer-by joining by accident; it is not a security measure, and it never was.

Local Network and Bluetooth

Polyptych asks for local network and Bluetooth access so it can find nearby devices running the app and send them pictures. What is exchanged between paired devices is:

  • the name you have given the device, so people can tell which screen is which;
  • its model, screen size and pixel density, which is how the picture is lined up across different hardware;
  • the pictures in the show, and small instructions about what to draw and when;
  • timestamps, so the devices can agree on a clock and change pictures together.

Nothing is exchanged with any device that has not joined with the code.

Children

Polyptych has no accounts, no messaging and no content from anyone else. It shows the pictures you choose, on the devices you choose.

Sharing Your Information

We do not share your information with any third parties, because we never have it in the first place.

Changes to This Policy

If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
