Privacy Policy

This privacy statement describes how Nowhere man ("we") handles your information when you use the Symptrace app on iPhone or iPad.
The short version: Symptrace works entirely on your device and collects nothing.
We do not collect, store or transmit any personal information. Symptrace has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising and no tracking of any kind. Nothing you enter is ever sent anywhere.
The treatments and symptoms you configure, and every entry you report, are stored only on your device, inside the app's own storage. Health information is sensitive, and the app is built so that it never has to leave the phone: there is no sync, no backup service of ours, and no server to send it to.
Closing an illness archives that log inside the same on-device storage instead of sending it anywhere: a closed illness is exactly as private as a live one.
Your log is included in your device's own encrypted backups if you have those switched on. Those backups are between you and Apple; we have no access to them.
The optional app lock uses Apple's LocalAuthentication framework with device-owner authentication. Your biometric data never leaves your device's Secure Enclave and is never available to the app — Symptrace only ever learns whether authentication succeeded or failed. Because it is device-owner authentication, your passcode also works, so a failed scan cannot lock you out of your own log.
The lock is off by default.
Reports are generated on your device and written to a temporary file. A report leaves your device only if you send it somewhere yourself, using the system share sheet. We never see it.
Symptrace makes exactly one network request, and only when you open Settings → Add from an illness → More illnesses. It downloads a public, static file from this project's wiki containing extra illness names to choose from.
That request sends nothing about you: no health data, no account, no device or advertising identifier, and no record of what you have configured or logged. It is an ordinary download of a public file, so GitHub — who host it — see the request the same way they would if you opened the wiki in a browser, including your IP address. If you never open that screen, the app makes no network requests at all.
The downloaded list is only a set of names, icons and colours. Nothing is created in your app until you pick an illness and tap Add.
Symptrace does not read from or write to the Health app, and requests no HealthKit permission.
We do not share your information with any third parties, because we never have it in the first place.
You are in control of all of it. Settings → Delete all entries clears your current log and keeps anything you have already closed. Settings → Closed illnesses deletes one closed illness together with everything archived under it. Settings → Reset the app clears the lot — the log, every closed illness, and the treatments and symptoms you configured. Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
If this policy changes, the new version will be published on this page with an updated effective date.
