Musicott offers several ways to navigate your music library. The sidebar's navigation section lets you switch between views; the main panel updates instantly. Each of these is a navigation mode (see the Glossary).
The default view. Shows every track in your library as a scrollable table with columns for title, artist, album, duration, and other metadata. Click any column header to sort. Double-click a row to start playing.
Click any playlist in the sidebar to show its tracks in the main table. See Playlists for full details on creating, organizing, and populating playlists.
A scrollable list of artists extracted from your library metadata. Clicking an artist opens a detail panel on the right showing their albums grouped by album name, with each album's tracks in a compact table. Multi-disc albums are split into per-disc sections. Double-click a track to play it; right-click for the context menu.
Artist random playback is available from the play-random button inside the artist detail panel.
A grid of album cover art. Each cell shows the album's cover, title, and track count. Clicking an album cover opens a right overlay drawer that lists the album's tracks; the grid is dimmed behind the drawer. Press Esc or click outside the drawer to close it. Double-click a track in the drawer to play it.
A grid of genre cover cells, one per genre found in your library. Because a genre has no single canonical cover, each cell shows a cover drawn from that genre's tracks and cycles to a different cover each time you move the pointer over it.
Single-click a genre cell to open a right overlay drawer. The drawer header shows the genre name and total track count — for example, TECHNO · 47 tracks. Below the header, the drawer lists the genre's tracks grouped by album, using the same album-row layout as the Artists and Albums views.
Partial albums: an album appears with only the tracks tagged with that genre. If an album has twelve tracks but only three carry the genre, the drawer shows those three. This is intentional — the drawer reflects the genre bucket exactly, without re-aggregating to the full album.
Multi-disc albums: albums with multiple discs are split into per-disc sections (Disc 1, Disc 2, and so on), matching the Artists view layout.
Album-less tracks: genre tracks with no album metadata are collected into a trailing "Unknown Album" section at the bottom of the drawer, so every track tagged with that genre is always reachable and playable.
- Double-click a track row to start playing.
- Right-click a track row for the context menu (add to queue, edit metadata, and so on).
- Press Esc or click anywhere outside the drawer (on the dimmed grid) to close it.
The drawer closes automatically if every track in the genre is re-tagged away from it while the drawer is open — the genre cell also disappears from the grid at that point.
Genre-level Play and Shuffle buttons are not available in this release; playback from the genre view works through individual track interaction described above.
