What's in it
- GPU-accelerated editor core on GPUI/blade
- Integrated terminal (
gpui-terminal, Alacritty-derived) - Zero-config LSP with on-demand provisioning for the JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS, HTML, JSON, YAML and Bash servers
- Built-in Git and an interactive diff viewer
- File explorer, fuzzy file finder, command palette, Go to Line
- Zed-compatible themes and typography
- Taskbar icon and desktop entry handled correctly on every Linux distro, including the
_NET_WM_ICONpath for panels that never read the desktop entry
Requirements
Linux needs a working Vulkan driver — the UI is GPU-rendered, and without one the window opens but draws nothing.
Known limitations
- Linux binaries are built against glibc 2.35, so the
.debneeds Ubuntu 22.04+ or Debian 12+, and the shell installer refuses anything older. - macOS is Apple Silicon only; there is no x86_64 or universal build.
- Nothing is code-signed or notarized, so macOS Gatekeeper and Windows SmartScreen will warn on first run.
- The
.deb,.rpmand Arch packages are brand new and were not exercised in CI before this release; please report packaging problems on the issue tracker.
