Signed 0.3.1

@dhh dhh released this 15 Oct 08:41

Fixes blank pages in the main view while the thumbnails drew fine. Poppler 26.08 can hang when it renders a page again after another page of the same document, which stalled every render queued behind it. Each render now starts from a fresh copy of the document.

Seal signed copies with an optional digital certificate, thanks to @parnoldx.

When you add a signature, Digital seal is off by default. Turn it on by creating a certificate for that signature, picking one you already have, or importing a .p12 file. Copies saved with a sealed signature carry an invisible PKCS#7 signature over the whole document, so any later change to the file shows in every PDF viewer.

  • Certificates are self-signed: a seal proves the file wasn't changed after you saved it, not who signed it, and some viewers warn that the signer is unknown.
  • They live in ~/.local/share/signed/certificates/, which isn't created until you make or import one.
  • A .p12 password is asked once for the import and never stored.

Sign PDFs from the command line, so scripts and AI agents can sign documents with your saved signatures. No display needed.

signed signatures # the saved signatures, by name
signed add-signature "Initials" photo.jpg # save one from a scan or photo
signed pages lease.pdf # page sizes in points
signed text lease.pdf --page 4 # each line of text, with its box
signed render lease.pdf --page 4 --grid -o p4.png # look at a page, with a 50-point grid
signed sign lease.pdf lease-signed.pdf --items items.json
  • sign places signatures, text, and today's date from a JSON list of items. It checks every item before writing, reports all problems at once, and never writes over the original. signed help items has the format.
  • Every command takes --json and exits 1 on failure, with errors on stderr.
  • signed skill install teaches Claude Code and Codex how to use Signed.

Changed: bare signed now prints help. Start the app with signed open [pdf] (the launcher entry does this), or signed some.pdf.

Corners now match your windows: Signed follows Hyprland's decoration:rounding, so it's sharp on Omarchy's default and rounded only when your theme or config rounds windows. Changes apply live, without a restart.

First release of Signed: sign PDFs and fill them in with text and dates.

  • Place saved signatures, text, and today's date anywhere on a page, at the mouse pointer.
  • Drag to move, drag the corner to scale, double-click text to edit. Undo and redo.
  • Add signatures from a scan or photo; the paper is removed and the ink kept.
  • Save a signed copy beside the original. The original pages stay as they are: text stays selectable and nothing is re-rendered.
  • Keyboard first: press ? for every hotkey.

Requires poppler-qt6, qpdf, noto-fonts, and xdg-desktop-portal.
