Usage

This page provides detailed instructions on how to use the FileManager tool

Commands

The CLI tool supports 7 commands thus far. These commands are prefixed with the name of the program filemanager and all but one are followed by the operation you want to perform and the file name or folder. Below is the list of supported commands by the filemanager program:

1. filemanager

  • This command shows a list of supported commands and what the commands do. Screenshot from 2024-09-01 17-28-11

2. write

  • This command gives you the option to create an empty txt and pdf files or you can create the files and add text to them.
  • When you run this command, a FileManager folder will be created in the Documents folder if it's your first time running the program or if the folder has been deleted. Screenshot from 2024-09-01 19-16-09

  • Please read the instructions carefully

3. search

  • The search command will search for a specified file and if a match is found, the explorer will open.
  • After confirming whether or not that is the file you are looking for, return to the terminal and enter your answer. Screenshot from 2024-09-01 19-25-26

4. share

  • The share command shares files locally on your PC with another device / PC over your browser (HTTP).
  • Your device and the device you are sharing with have to be connected to the same wifi network.
  • Only use this feature with people you trust as someone can easily explore and download other files you haven't authorized them to see and download.

5. remove

  • This command removes a specified file on your PC.
  • It saves you time to look for the file yourself and delete it yourself.
  • You will be prompted to confirm the file you want to delete.

6. view

  • This command views the contents of a file on your PC.
  • The process of looking for the file is also automated.

7. organise

  • This command organizes folders in a specified folder.
  • It does this by creating subfolders for specific items like videos, songs, zipped files, and other files.

  1. To search for a file
filemanager search me.txt
  1. To view a file
filemanager view me.txt
  1. To share a file
filemanager share me.txt
  1. To write a file
filemanager write me.txt
  1. To organize a folder
filemanager organize me
  1. To remove a file
filemanager remove me.pdf

Issues

  • Currently, the view file only works for txt files
  • The search command isn't fully functional on Windows machines
  • The share command might fail to discover the IP address you are connected to if you have multiple network configurations on your system
