Fresh GUI install crashes, DLL error

We just attempted to upgrade to the latest version of the openEphys GUI (1.0.2) but we are getting an error before the GUI starts:

The code execution cannot proceed because WMVCore.DLL was not found. Reinstalling the program may fix this problem.

We tried to revert to the our previous installed version, but this is also failing to start with the same error.

What we've tried:

• installing Windows Media Features
• uninstalling/reinstalling the new GUI version

Any help would be much appreciated!

• OS: 11

Hi @chris-angeloni ,

It looks like WMVCore.DLL was introduced in v1.0 of the GUI when we upgraded to JUCE v8.0, which is the framework used by the GUI.

Just to confirm, did you install the Windows Media Player optional feature via Settings > System > Optional features? Does it show up in the list of added optional features, like in the screenshot below?

Thank you! Yes, it looks like the culprit is a failed installation of the Windows Media Features, which may be related to a failed windows update. We are currently performing a system repair which will hopefully allow us to install the Media Features, I'll update here if that solves the issue

The issue was with a failed Windows update, which was preventing the Windows Media Feature Pack from being installed. In case anyone else encounters this issue, we had to do a Windows Update recovery: under System > Recovery click "Reinstall now" under "Fix problems using Windows Update". This eventually allowed us to successfully update Windows. Then we followed this YouTube video to fix the Windows Media Feature Pack installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f8Zga0YQIMQ
