@FramY2 — a focused trial question related to CtxWise's instruction audit/compression work. Your paired live benchmark already checks answers as well as token usage, so I am not suggesting that it only inspects files. Would a small, repeatable startup-marker report before/after an instruction change add anything to that workflow? For example, in a disposable copy of one of your projects, test a marker in a child The unchanged v0.1.0 package and commands above support that comparison. It needs macOS/Linux, Node 22+, Codex 0.163.0+ and gpt-6.1-sol/MAX access; one live call per observation, using your existing quota. The diagnostic disables hooks/MCP/Apps/plugins, so it only addresses startup guidance. A missing marker alone does not establish non-delivery or lost instruction compliance. If it fits your setup, one actual result or the first setup obstacle would help. If |

@ghfs-dev — I read your v1.1.2 fallback-file fix and fresh-run rollout checks. Your existing acceptance test already checks which guidance reached the session. Would a reusable fresh-marker before/after report add value when you next change those generated rules or guidance settings? If it fits your current setup, Agent Relay Check's shared v0.1.1 candidate ZIP (source and first-run instructions) can test a disposable marker in the guidance file selected for one of your own test projects, then compare a fresh marker after a later change. It reports the actual response with zero observed tools. Scope is startup guidance with hooks/MCP/Apps/plugins disabled; it does not test the mounted issue files. I have not run ghfs or tested an integration. The established route needs macOS/Linux, Node 22+, authenticated Codex 0.163.0+ and gpt-6.1-sol/MAX access. Each observation uses one model call on your existing quota and sends the selected project guidance through that account. An OS/CLI version and result or first obstacle would help; omit project contents and credentials. If your existing rollout checks already cover this with less work, that is useful feedback too. |

@christianreiss — your dynamic instruction sync tracks base, managed-section and combined hashes. Would a separate local Codex startup check after sync be useful? Matching the delivered bytes and selecting them for a particular working directory are different observations. I have not run your orchestrator or found a sync bug. From the unchanged v0.1.2 ZIP, open node cli.mjs inspect --project "/absolute/path/to/your/shareable-project"Node22+ and installed Codex0.163.0 are needed for the pinned estimate. It requests zero model turns; normal Codex initialization may communicate/write metadata. Native source selection and estimated byte counts are separate; a listed file can be partial. Uncertain cases remain Relay starts installed local Would you try one local project and share OS/CLI version plus status or the first sanitized obstacle? Please omit private guidance, credentials and paths. If existing checks already cover this with less setup, that is useful feedback too. |

If you change a nested
AGENTS.md, add an override, or update Codex, how do you check that the next session can actually return information from that instruction path?I built Agent Relay Check v0.1.4: add a temporary random marker, start a fresh Codex session, then compare the response locally. The expected value is not in the question. A response obtained after observed tool activity is rejected as receipt evidence. It also compares reports before and after a change.
If you only need to inspect the assembled input, Codex already provides
codex debug prompt-input. Relay adds a live marker-response check and before/after reports when those are useful; it is not required just to see which guidance was assembled.October 27 update: v0.1.4 adds explicit
run --model ID --effort LEVELfor a runtime you already have access to, with no automatic lookup, fallback or retry. FramY2 reported a Windows before/after result:NOT_OBSERVEDbefore adding the marker, thenRECEIVED, zero tool calls and confirmed cleanup, on Windows11 / Node24.11.1 / Codex0.163.0-alpha.11.2 /gpt-6-lunawithmediumeffort. This is one developer's public self-report; it does not establish general Windows/model compatibility or alpha-loader byte estimates. Download the 24-file v0.1.4 ZIP (SHA-256), extract it, and open
agent-relay-check:node cli.mjs inspect --project "/absolute/path/to/your-shareable-project"This observes Codex's native startup source selection and compares it with a separate local byte estimate pinned to detected stable Codex0.163.0 or0.164.0, with Node22+. A 40-byte parent plus a 200-byte child under a 128-byte project budget listed both files in our synthetic control, while the child estimate was
TRUNCATEDat 88 examined bytes. A listed path can be partial. Other loader versions, uncertain configuration/files/environment or cleanup remainINCONCLUSIVE; outside-project source paths are count-only.No marker edit, model response or model turn is requested. Codex initialization may communicate and write its normal metadata: this is not offline or zero side effects. It does not prove marker receipt or rule compliance. Five no-turn controls on each supported CLI and limits. To check actual marker receipt, use the separate one-call steps below.
An operator-run v0.1.0 example on macOS, Codex 0.163.0,
gpt-6.1-sol/ MAX:AGENTS.mdAGENTS.override.mdAll three completed with zero observed tool calls. This corroborates the existing report in #54755; it is not a new bug discovery or an independent user trial. Canary testing already exists—the aim here is a repeatable runner, deterministic comparison and a small shareable report.
October 23 history: v0.1.1 added the experimental native Windows launcher and bounded process-tree cleanup. Its Windows CI with official Codex0.163.0 checked startup, restricted configuration reads and cleanup without a model call; authenticated Windows marker receipt was unverified at that point. The later v0.1.4 developer report is linked in the October27 update above. Native Windows users should use the PowerShell first-run and matching before/after guide. The macOS measurements above remain the original v0.1.0 experiment.
Try one instruction path in your own project: 24-file v0.1.4 ZIP · SHA-256 · source and full instructions
Requires Node.js 22+, macOS/Linux (or experimental native Windows), authenticated Codex CLI 0.163.0+, and access to the model you select. The default is gpt-6.1-sol/MAX. A live check makes one model call using your existing quota/billing; there is no automatic model lookup, fallback, retry or extra service registration. Other model/effort combinations remain experimental, with the single external report above kept separate from operator controls.
After extracting the ZIP and entering its
agent-relay-checkdirectory, keep this terminal open:Append the generated
instruction.mdblock to the instruction file you want to test. Keep the challenge/output outside that project. Replace the example path below with your actual startup directory (the child directory when checking its guidance), then run:For an already available runtime, add
--model ID --effort LEVELtorun; explicit selection and limits explains the options.inspectdoes not accept these flags. Keep the same runtime for a like-for-like before/after comparison; reports record runtime changes.Remove only your temporary block afterward. Matching before/after commands are available for a later settings or CLI change. The optional disposable demonstration needs Git and makes four calls.
RECEIVEDmeans the exact marker was returned;NOT_OBSERVEDdoes not prove non-delivery; unusable or tool-contaminated runs areINCONCLUSIVE. The check covers startup guidance only, with hooks/MCP/Apps/plugins disabled for the diagnostic. It does not certify instruction compliance, compaction, or security. Your project guidance is sent through your existing Codex account, so use a project you are authorized to test.If setup stops before the first report
node --versionandcodex --versionin the same terminal you use for the check. The explicit “Codex CLI 0.163.0 or newer” prerequisite error occurs before a model call. It is a setup failure, not aNOT_OBSERVEDreceipt. Relay does not upgrade or sign you in.--outcan produceEEXIST: even an early version failure can leave an empty reserved output directory. Keep old results. After resolving the setup error, use the preparation steps above to create a fresh temporary workspace and fresh marker block, replace only your previous diagnostic block, and choose a new output directory. ResolvingEEXISTdoes not resolve an old CLI, authentication or model-access problem.report.jsonwas written, share only your OS, Node/Codex versions and the sanitized error. Do not post your challenge, instruction contents, credentials or private paths. If a report exists or the result isINCONCLUSIVE, inspect it first; the run may have used quota. Do not automatically retry an uncertain model turn. The retry behavior was checked with v0.1.1 and a version-only fake CLI, without a real model call. That fixture is separate from the later authenticated Windows v0.1.4 self-report linked above.
If you try it, could you reply with OS/Codex version, which instruction path you tested, the result, and the first confusing step? A sanitized error or a reason an existing tool already solves this is equally useful. Please omit prompts, credentials and project contents; review any report before sharing.
