Usage limit on a Monday morning on ChatGPT Plus #2669

Description

@TheKnarf

What version of Codex is running?

codex-cli 0.23.0

Which model were you using?

gpt-5 medium (default setting)

What platform is your computer?

Darwin 24.6.0 x86_64 i386

What steps can reproduce the bug?

🖐 You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Pro (https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing), or wait for limits to reset (every 5h and every week.).

It's Monday morning, I just got into the office; had a standup, got some coffee, sat down at my computer. I run codex in my terminal and ask it a simple question about my codebase, it immediately hit me with this. It's both a new week and well over 5 hours since I last used it. So why didn't the usage limit reset? I didn't even get it to do a single thing. I event tried updating the CLI with homebrew and login again in case that was the problem.

What is the expected behavior?

For it to reset usage every 5h and every week as is stated, so it should work on a Monday morning when I haven't yet used it.

What do you see instead?

Instead I see the dreaded:

🖐 You've hit your usage limit. Upgrade to Pro (https://openai.com/chatgpt/pricing), or wait for limits to reset (every 5h and every week.).

Additional information

Over the last couple of days the limit have felt more and more restricted, eventually I had to give up trying to vibe code something over the weekend. Is there a secret total limit that only resets every week thats running on a different timezone or something?

Edit It's Thuesday and its working again.
