It's Monday morning, I just got into the office; had a standup, got some coffee, sat down at my computer. I run codex in my terminal and ask it a simple question about my codebase, it immediately hit me with this. It's both a new week and well over 5 hours since I last used it. So why didn't the usage limit reset? I didn't even get it to do a single thing. I event tried updating the CLI with homebrew and login again in case that was the problem.

What is the expected behavior?

For it to reset usage every 5h and every week as is stated, so it should work on a Monday morning when I haven't yet used it.

What do you see instead?

Instead I see the dreaded:

Additional information

Over the last couple of days the limit have felt more and more restricted, eventually I had to give up trying to vibe code something over the weekend. Is there a secret total limit that only resets every week thats running on a different timezone or something?

I’m experiencing the same issue. It would be really helpful if they published a blog post explaining the limits in detail. At the very least, the system should indicate whether I’ve hit an hourly or weekly rate limit, and provide a counter showing how much usage I have left.

What do you mean by "try it again"? I restarted Codex completely, but the message still won’t go away.

It is Monday (or even Tuesday) everywhere now, and still no weekly reset! This really is a joke, or fraud, or something. There is at least one other thread about limits and codex, which got closed with a 'We are fixing it, trust us bro' well the trust has gone, perhaps the ChatGPT bubble has burst?

Same problem here.
On saturday afternoon subscribed to Plus. I used for a an 1 hour.
This morning i used again 10am -> 11.30am is blocked to reach the limits. --- now at 11.20 pm there is still the limits. Honestly speaking i don't know that's happened.

info: gpt-5-med reasoning, the stats i can't see the conversation of this morning but from logs are 940k char. , used mcp serena, used on a small codebase (just started a new project with 2-3 screens - react native)

It's just crazy to being ignored about such a widespread problem, the limits reset every 5 hours are literally gone, its broken for a bunch of people and 0 response from the Codex team...

I dont think at this rate openai even wants you to use codex with ChatGPT plus plan. The limits are getting crazy short.
