What issue are you seeing?

Environment:

  • Windows 11 24H2
  • Codex version 26.608.1337.0 (Microsoft Store)
  • ChatGPT Pro subscription
  • Microsoft Edge WebView2 Runtime installed
  • Windows App Runtime installed

Issue:
The Codex Windows application launches successfully, shows a window for approximately 2-3 seconds, and then closes automatically.

Observed behavior:

  • App installation succeeds.
  • App activation succeeds.
  • AppModel-Runtime logs show process creation.
  • The process exits shortly after launch.
  • No Application Error, .NET Runtime, or AppModel-Runtime error events are generated.
  • No visible error message is shown.

Troubleshooting performed:

  • Reinstalled Codex multiple times.
  • Removed local package data.
  • Verified WebView2 Runtime installation.
  • Verified Windows App Runtime installation.
  • Ran DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth.
  • Ran SFC /scannow (no integrity violations found).
  • Rebooted multiple times.

Additional information:
The issue started immediately after installing Windows updates KB5074828 and KB5089549 on 2026-06-11.

Expected behavior:
Codex should remain open and reach the login/home screen instead of closing automatically.

What steps can reproduce the bug?

  1. Install Codex from the Microsoft Store.
  2. Launch Codex from the Start Menu.
  3. The application window appears for approximately 2-3 seconds.
  4. The application closes automatically without displaying any error message.
  5. Reinstalling the application does not resolve the issue.
  6. The issue occurs after every launch attempt.

What is the expected behavior?

The Codex application should remain open and display the login screen or main application interface instead of closing automatically after launch.

AppModel-Runtime logs show:

  • Codex process creation succeeds.
  • AppX container creation succeeds.
  • Container is removed a few seconds later.
  • No Application Error, .NET Runtime, or AppModel-Runtime error events are generated.

The issue started immediately after installing Windows updates:
