Please restore the conversation timeline / message locator that used to appear beside the Codex chat content.
In the previous Codex UI, a long conversation had a vertical navigation timeline with markers for different user prompts / conversation turns. Clicking a marker could quickly jump back to that point in the thread.
In the current unified ChatGPT/Codex desktop UI, this timeline is no longer visible.
Why this matters
For long-running coding and agent-development conversations, a thread can contain many prompts and responses. Without the timeline/message locator, finding an earlier discussion requires manually scrolling through a very long conversation, which is slow and inconvenient.
This is especially painful for users who keep one Codex thread open for an ongoing project and frequently need to revisit earlier requirements, decisions, code changes, or debugging steps.
Requested behavior
Please restore a navigation control similar to the previous Codex UI:
- Show a vertical conversation timeline beside the chat content.
- Add a marker for each user prompt / major conversation turn.
- Clicking a marker should jump directly to that message.
- Ideally show a short prompt preview on hover.
- It would be useful to allow this feature to be enabled/disabled in Settings.

- Product: Codex in the new unified ChatGPT Desktop UI
- Platform: Windows
- Regression: the feature was available in the previous Codex UI but is missing after updating to the new UI
User impact
When a conversation becomes long, locating previous messages is significantly harder than before. Restoring this feature would make long Codex project threads much easier to navigate.
