Codex Desktop: annotation text becomes invisible against the input background #35569

Description

@hacksurvivor

What version of Codex is running?

Codex Desktop 26.721.41059 (build 5848)

What platform is your computer?

macOS 26.5.2 (build 25F84)

What issue are you seeing?

When adding an annotation to a Codex document, the typed annotation text is often almost invisible because it is rendered in a very dark color on the black annotation input background.

The behavior is intermittent: after adding a couple of annotations, the text may become visible, then turn invisible again on a later annotation. In the observed screenshot, the word remove is present in the input but has almost no contrast with the background.

Steps to reproduce

  1. Open a document in Codex Desktop.
  2. Select or highlight content and start an annotation.
  3. Type text into the annotation input.
  4. Add a few more annotations and repeat.
  5. Observe that the annotation text alternates between visible and nearly invisible states.

Expected behavior

Annotation text should always use a foreground color with sufficient contrast against the annotation input background, regardless of focus, annotation count, or interaction state.

Actual behavior

The text color sometimes matches or nearly matches the dark background, making the annotation unreadable while typing. After a few annotations it may briefly render correctly, then regress again.

Suggested fix

Use an explicit high-contrast text color for the annotation input across all states (default, focused, active, and after submitting previous annotations), and add a UI regression test for the computed text color/contrast.
