What variant of Codex are you using?
Codex Mobile in the ChatGPT mobile app with a connected remote Codex host.
What feature would you like to see?
Show the connected remote machine's battery information in the ChatGPT mobile app's Codex interface.
When the host operating system makes the information available, display:
- Battery level as a percentage
- Whether the machine is plugged into external power
- Whether the battery is currently charging, fully charged, or discharging
- A clear low-battery indication
A compact indicator could appear beside the host in the Connections screen and/or in the active remote session header. If the machine has no battery, the operating system does not expose the information, or the value is temporarily unavailable, the UI should simply omit the indicator or show an unobtrusive “Unavailable” state.
Why is this useful?
When controlling or monitoring Codex from a phone, the user may be away from the remote laptop and unable to see whether it is about to lose power. A battery and charging indicator would help users decide whether to continue a long-running task, reduce workload, connect the host to power, or save progress before the remote connection disappears.
This would be especially useful alongside Remote Control presence and “Keep this Mac awake,” because an online host can still become unavailable when its battery runs out.
Privacy and update behavior
Battery telemetry should be limited to the paired/authorized remote-control clients, sent only while Remote Control is enabled, and updated at a modest interval or when charging state changes rather than continuously.
Suggested acceptance criteria
- Mobile shows battery percentage for a connected battery-powered host when reported by the OS.
- Mobile distinguishes plugged in/charging, fully charged, and discharging states.
- Low battery is visually identifiable without being intrusive.
- Desktop machines and unsupported hosts remain unaffected.
- Stale or unavailable battery data is not presented as current.
