Visual Math 0.7.0 — Desktop public beta

Visual Math is the new display name of Visual Math Editor. Keep the existing visual-math-editor folder and settings; this is the same plugin and update identity.

  • Graph a supported formula directly below the editor without typing it twice. Editing either Hybrid pane updates the current preview; Insert equation and graph saves both together.
  • Choose English, Simplified Chinese or Spanish. Spanish element search and graph descriptions are included.
  • Save a completed equation as your own keyword, then type it in Visual/Hybrid or insert it from the saved list.
  • Continue using offline chemistry notation and optional balance suggestions, physics templates, units, the element table and Re/Im complex planes.
  • View real Obsidian screenshots, bilingual installation instructions and exact checks in the repository.

License transition

New original project code and this release as a whole use GPL version 3 only with the narrow Obsidian linking exception. Commercial use and redistribution are allowed under GPL; distribution of covered derivatives requires compliant licensing and Corresponding Source. Notes/formulas are not GPL-covered merely by using the plugin. Earlier releases through 0.6.5 retain their existing MIT grants, and third-party licenses remain unchanged. See LICENSING.md.

Downloads

  • visual-math-editor-0.7.0.zip: ready-to-install plugin. Extract the folder into the vault's .obsidian/plugins/, preserving existing data.json, then restart Obsidian.
  • visual-math-editor-source-0.7.0.zip: matching Corresponding Source, scripts, dependency metadata, exact upstream preferred-source/npm archives and build instructions. Developers can build with Node.js 22 or 24 using npm ci, npm run check and npm run package.
  • Individual main.js, manifest.json and styles.css files support the Obsidian updater. Extra ZIPs/checksums are for manual use; Obsidian does not download them automatically.
  • SHA256SUMS.txt verifies both ZIPs. All six release assets have verified GitHub build provenance for the exact 0.7.0 source tag and signing workflow.

Checks and limits

172 automated tests, type checking, production build, packaging and 345 browser component checks passed. Hosted main/tag CI on Node.js 22/24 and the release workflow passed. Targeted native tests used macOS and Obsidian 1.14.4: linked graph editing/save/reopen, Spanish and persistent keyword expansion with actual keyboard input.

The graph follows its formula inside the current editor. Saved formula and graph blocks are independent; regenerate or edit the graph after later formula changes. Windows, Linux, mobile, detached windows and arbitrary plugin/theme combinations remain unverified. Directory review is separate from GitHub publication. See TEST-REPORT.md.

中文：新版更名为 Visual Math，加入公式下方绘图、西班牙语和自定义公式快捷词；安装文件夹不变，保留已有设置。新版采用 GPLv3 与 Obsidian 连接例外，允许遵守 GPL 的商用，分发衍生代码须开放相应源码；旧版 MIT 授权仍有效。普通用户下载第一个安装 ZIP，源码 ZIP 供开发者修改、构建和合规再分发。
