They should have let us use PDF files for documents and face verification. They clearly don't want us to have the pack that easily even with eligible documents. They prolly expects the same document as what they trained their automated system to verify us despite having the different documents around the world. |

Sorry you're dealing with this. If your document clearly includes your name, faculty position, university name, and a current date, but the system keeps rejecting it—or returns no rejection reason—that does sound like an issue with the automated verification rather than your document. The empty "Issues to address" section is especially concerning. Hopefully the GitHub Education team can investigate whether this is a broader bug and provide a supported escalation path for affected faculty applicants. |

Verification Help & Guidance
Hi everyone,
Hello,
I am a faculty member applying for GitHub Education faculty benefits. My application has been rejected more than ten times, and I believe the automated verification is failing to read my document rather than finding an actual problem with it.
What I submitted
An official Certificate of Employment issued by my university, in English, on university letterhead, signed and sealed by the university president. It clearly states, as printed text:
My full name (first and last)
My position: "Professor"
The full name of my university, in the body text and in the address field — not only in the logo
A current issue date (July 2026)
What is already correct on my side
The name on the document, the name in my GitHub billing information, and the name on my GitHub public profile are identical. No nicknames, no variations.
My faculty status is stated explicitly on the document, twice.
I logged out and back in before re-applying, as instructed.
What keeps happening
When I use camera capture, I receive the standard rejection listing name-mismatch and "document does not appear to indicate you as a faculty member" — even though both are plainly printed on the document. On one attempt I was also told the document does not contain my school name, although the full university name appears as text in the body.
When I use "Upload a file" with a high-resolution scan of the same document, the application is rejected with: "Please use your device camera to submit academic affiliation documents."
So neither path passes. The camera path appears to compress or degrade the image enough that OCR cannot extract the fields; the upload path is refused outright.
On my three most recent attempts, the rejection contains no reasons at all — the "Issues to address" section is empty, both in the web UI and in the rejection email. Nothing is listed for me to fix.
I stopped applying for two weeks, in case rapid repeat submissions were the cause, then applied once more. Same empty-reason rejection. The interval between submissions does not appear to be the factor.
For my most recent attempt I followed the FAQ guidance precisely: a freshly captured live photo, upright orientation, text large and legible, with the name, position, university name and issue date all clearly readable in frame. Still an empty-reason rejection.
Why I am posting here
The documentation directs people with verification problems to this community, and individual manual verification is no longer offered. I have no remaining path to escalate, and no stated issue left to correct.
Questions
Is the empty-reason rejection a known bug? What is a user supposed to correct when no issue is listed?
Is there any supported way to submit a document when camera OCR cannot read it and file upload is refused?
Are there any known workarounds for faculty applicants whose documents are valid but unreadable to the automated system?
Several other recent discussions describe the same pattern and remain unanswered, including
#198778 (faculty rejected repeatedly despite all information matching),
#198804 (rejection showing no reason at all),
#198493,
#198755 and
#198791. If this is a systemic issue, it would help many of us to know whether it is being tracked.
Thank you.
