Hi everyone,

I have received this feedback (via email) from Github when applying:
Please use your device camera to submit academic affiliation documents.

However, there is no link to go to submit this. What is the link, please, or how can I submit it to be reconsidered please?

Could be related to [Incident] GitHub Education applications unable to re-apply #210370 but not necessarily as according to the email I must fix this before reapplying.

Email's content:

Hi LucaGatt22,

We couldn’t verify your academic affiliation based on your submission (Oct 14, 2026) for user @LucaGatt22.

Issues to address:

[...]

Please use your device camera to submit academic affiliation documents.

Once fixed, reapply here.

Why there wasn't a separate "upload photo" link:

GitHub Education has completely removed static file upload options (PDF/image uploads from disk) to prevent document fraud. Instead, the portal now uses live device camera capture directly embedded within the reapplication form.

How to submit your evidence correctly:

1. Use a Mobile Device (Highly Recommended):

   • Open the link on your mobile phone browser (Chrome on Android or Safari on iOS). Desktop webcams often fail to focus properly or get blocked by browser permissions.
   • Make sure you grant the browser Camera and Location permissions when prompted (GitHub uses geolocation to verify physical proximity to your academic institution during capture).

2. Step-by-Step on the Application Page:

   • Scroll down to the "Select school" and "What email address do you use for school?" fields.
   • Under the proof submission section, you will see a camera viewbox.
   • Place your physical Student ID card, tuition receipt, or enrollment letter flat under good lighting and tap Take photo.

3. Pre-flight Checklist Before Submitting:

   • Ensure Two-Factor Authentication (2FA) is active on your GitHub account.
   • Ensure your official school-issued email is added and verified in your GitHub Email Settings.
   • Ensure your GitHub profile name matches the name on your student ID.

Try visiting ⁠GitHub Education and checking whether you can reapply from there.

If you can’t reapply, I’d recommend contacting ⁠GitHub Support and explaining that your rejection email asks you to correct your academic document submission but doesn’t provide a working reapplication link.

You can also ask in the ⁠GitHub Education Community.

The camera instruction is likely referring to the document verification step in the application process, rather than a separate submission page. If the reapplication option is unavailable, GitHub Support will need to clarify how you can resubmit.

Hi,

You can try going to the GitHub Education application page and signing in to your GitHub account. If your application can be resubmitted, you should be able to continue the process there.

When reapplying, select the option to use your device's camera to capture your academic documents, rather than uploading an existing image. Make sure the document is clear and shows the required academic details.

If you still cannot reapply or there is no option to capture the document, contact GitHub Education Support or ask in this discussion for help, as it may be related to the application issue mentioned above.

Thanks @shourya and @Nipun-Sudusinghe! I checked my account at github.com/settings/education/benefits and saw that my student coupon was already approved and active. That explains why no further document submission link was available.

Start an application button was greyed out, even though I already received the email of rejection (copied in my post). It was a matter of time (about a day) until the message in the email was shown in the https://github.com/settings/education/benefits with the application set to Rejected instead of in review. It is now that the Start an application button became available again, I re-applied with taking a photo live instead of uploading an image (Upload file) and this time it is Approved. Thank you all for your replies.

Now I wait for up to 3 days to get the benefits.

Your academic status has been approved.

Your benefits, including Partner offers, will become available after 72 hours (3 days) of your approval.

Once the benefits become available, this message will update and enable you to access Student Developer Pack offers and redeem Copilot.
