Self hosting links.

A list of links to stuff you can self host, and host it for other people i guess.

some examples could be:

1. speed test librespeed
2. dns (don't know how myself yet but a tutorial that includes dnssec and no logging stuff)
3. Nextcloud ofc already on the website.
4. translate libretranslate
5. youtube thingy peertube
6. search engine Yacy Search or searx
7. reddit frontends teddit or libreddit

Can you provide more information on your idea? Where do you propose Privacy Guides would put it? Personally I agree with your idea but instead of being on the main site it would be in the blog post and they can link to the blog article under Software.

Either that or in the future once Privacy Guides expands more they would add a Miscellaneous section where they would link to the blog post.

I also want to provide my own list of self-hosted projects.

It would focus more on stuff you can self host for the public, like tor, searx, or a dns server, what @NSABackdoors mentioned about putting it on the blog section sounds nice. I don't know if its to much work but have some tutorials on how to host tor and configure it for no logging stuff like that as an example might be nice to have.

awesome-selfhosted is truly an awesome heh albeit giant list of selfhosted software/providers that doesn't really focus on privacy. (Although selfhosting is related to privacy but you get the idea) I feel like this version would focus on the main culprits. e.g Tor nodes, Invidious instances, etc.

This one will have more of a focus towards encouraging the community to be more self sustained and tackle the main culprits. This will help alleviate the pressure off the Privacy Guides team so they can fully focus on the actual site itself.

I am by no means suggesting that Privacy Guides should stop hosting their own services, I'm saying at the very least if Privacy Guides encounters any issues whether it be financially or due to certain situations like a team member getting sick or being busy, the community will still have alternatives from other members of the community. This will/could also (to some extent) encourage others to support each other creating a more supportive community and encouraging them to get into hosting alternative providers themselves once they see other members of the community doing it. (Of course I realize that this isn't realistic but it is within the realm of possibility)

It will also encourage supporting privacy causes and taking a hands-on approach to privacy issues we have in the real world. Think the situation with ProtonMail as an example, if public pressure had been enough the authorities would've been hesitant/scared to send a request to ProtonMail to give out the IP of the activist and that could affect their decision.

ProtonMail situation for those who aren't aware. (Please don't hate on ProtonMail, this was a political issue as mentioned earlier, not a particular service issue.)

Although you could fully disagree with my idea and I'll be perfectly fine with that. It's simply an idea I have, it won't kill the site if you disagree.

I agree with Jonah and wonder if Awesome-selfhosted could be asked if they could somehow make privacy things easier to filter out (like adding some random string after privacy solutions for searching with CTRL-F) and a mentioning on how Tor and I2P sites are easy to add?

We've listed some frontends for some notable things. https://www.privacyguides.org/frontends/

I think to make a lot of these usable you need something like Libredirect, which I want to mention as a part of privacyguides/privacyguides.org#1977.
