Kiyi 0.5.0
Kiyi 0.5.0 turns saved queries into reusable reports, connects to hosted databases in one step, and keeps your own work safe. If you already have Kiyi, it updates itself and asks before restarting.
New
Query parameters. Write :customer_id (or any :name) in a query. When it runs, Kiyi asks for the value:
- Numbers go in as numbers; anything else is quoted safely for your database. You can also choose NULL.
- Values are remembered while the tab is open.
So a saved query like "orders of :customer_id since :since" becomes a report you can run again and again.
Hosted databases. Kiyi recognises Supabase, Neon, PlanetScale, Amazon RDS, Azure SQL, Azure Database for PostgreSQL and MySQL, DigitalOcean, Railway, Render and Aiven from their address:
- SSL is turned on where the provider requires it, so a pasted connection string just works.
- The connection window tells you where to find the details in the provider's dashboard, with tips like Supabase's IPv4 pooler.
- The welcome screen has a shortcut for each provider.
Your work is kept safe. Query history, saved queries, table views and column layouts, open query tabs and settings now live as files in Kiyi's folder. Clearing the app's web storage no longer loses them, and existing data moves over by itself on first launch.
Saved queries and views travel with your connections. Export connections on one computer and import them on another: their saved queries and table views come along, matched to the new connections. Query history stays behind, because it can hold values from your data.
Turn history off. Settings → General → Query history, for queries that contain sensitive values.
Fixed
- Narrow windows: the table toolbar, Move data and the Overview wrap onto a second line. Before, Insert row, Columns, Views and Save plan could end up out of reach.
- Welcome screen: the list of databases found on this computer no longer collapses when the window is short.
- Sidebar: tables created, renamed or dropped in the SQL editor appear right away.
- SQL autocomplete: it suggests only words that start with what you typed.
- Objects: MySQL's own internal accounts are no longer listed among users.
- Screen readers: every field in the row panel has a name they can read out.
- Wording: "1 rows" now reads "1 row".
Under the hood
The interface is now clicked through on every change: 16 flows against real databases, in a 920×560 window too. They already caught a crash in the SQL editor before it reached anyone.
