v1.2
Fixed
- Rotating the phone no longer loses your place. The viewer
re-derived its position from the row it read when the map was
opened, so turning the phone didn't re-fit where you were looking —
it threw you back to wherever you started. - Maps now reliably reopen where you left them. The position was
written as the viewer was torn down, on a scope that was usually
already cancelled by then, so going back — the normal way to leave a
map — frequently dropped it. Backgrounding the app lost it outright,
since Android kills processes without warning the screen. - The back arrow was under the status bar, and being a bare icon
drawn on the map, it vanished over dark areas. It now clears the
status bar and sits on a translucent disc.
Changed
- Text and thin lines are sharper at most zoom levels. Tiles are
rendered finer than they're drawn and then scaled down — by nearly
half, just past every doubling of zoom. They were being filtered in
a way that undersamples exactly there, which made hairlines shimmer
and thin routes drop out. - Less of a smear while sharp tiles are still rendering. The only
fallback underneath was the whole page at fit scale, magnified up to
24x. Where a closer level is still cached from zooming in, that now
gets drawn instead. - Library rows are readable. Thumbnails were rendered at 256px and
then squeezed into a 48dp square, so a wide map used about a fifth
of it. The box now matches the shape of a map. - Rename, favourite and delete are no longer hidden. They were
long-press only, with nothing to suggest they existed. Rows now have
an overflow button, and the actions open in a bottom sheet instead
of a dialog.
Installs over v1.1.1 without uninstalling.
v1.1.1
Fixed
- Leaving a large map no longer crashes the app. Closing a map
freed the PDF document while a tile was still being rendered,
which killed the process. On a big map each tile takes long enough
that one was almost always still in flight when you pressed back,
so the crash was near-certain on something like the
Mapa de Recorridos del Gran Santiago; smaller maps
finished rendering too quickly to hit it.
Installs over v1.1.0 without uninstalling.
v1.1.0
Changed
- Zoom is animated. Double tapping now eases to its target over
280ms instead of snapping. - Two double-tap stops. Tapping cycles fit to 3x to 6x and back
to fit, rather than a single stop. - You can zoom three times deeper — the ceiling is now 24x
fit-to-screen, with an extra tile level so the deepest zoom still
renders sharp rather than blurring. - "Star" is now "Favourite", and "Unstar" is "Remove from
favourites". The section header reads Favourites. - The long-press menu is aligned. Rename, Favourite and Delete
now share a left margin and sit on an even rhythm, each with an
icon. - The launcher icon is centred. The artwork sat slightly left
of centre.
Installs over v1.0.0 without uninstalling.
v1.0.0
First release.
An Android app for reading PDF maps — transit networks, bike path
networks, anything diagrammatic. Import a PDF, pick it from an
alphabetical list, zoom and pan.
Install
Download pdf-maps-v1.0.0.apk below and open it on your phone. You
will need to allow installing from unknown sources, since this is
not distributed through the Play Store.
Requires Android 8.0 (API 26) or newer.
What's in it
- Share or "open with" any PDF, or tap + to pick one. The file
is copied into the app, so moving or deleting the original does
not affect your library. - Every page of a PDF becomes its own map, named
Something (1/3). - Starred maps pin to the top; everything else is alphabetical.
Long-press to rename, star or delete. - Pinch, pan and double-tap. Tiles are re-rendered from the PDF at
the current zoom, so text stays sharp all the way in. Zoom and
position are remembered per map.
No GPS, no accounts, no network access.
