Settings and permissions

Permissions

Both permissions are on the Misc tab.

Permission Set in What it allows Given by default to
Can claim topics and see claims Moderator permissions, for all forums (global moderators) or per forum Claim topics, see claims and the MCP list, change and release your own claims The Full Moderator and Standard Moderator roles
Can take over, transfer and release other moderators' topic claims Administrator permissions Take over, transfer, release and change any moderator's claim The Full Admin and Standard Admin roles
  • The administrator permission only works in forums where that user can also claim topics, because they must see a claim to change it. A founder still needs the moderator permission in the forum.
  • To stop administrators overriding moderators, set the administrator permission to No or Never for them, or remove it from the roles.
  • Moderators also need to be able to read the forum.
  • After changing permissions, users may need to log out and in again.

Releasing claims

Both are off by default, so claims stay until someone releases them.

  • Release claims on locked topics: a claim is released when its topic is locked, and locked topics cannot be claimed. Locking from Quick-mod tools, the MCP or the posting form releases the claim straight away; other locks are picked up by the hourly check below.
  • Release claims after a number of days: claims older than this are released. Transferring or taking over a claim starts its date again. 0 keeps claims until they are released.

Both are checked about once an hour by a phpBB scheduled task. phpBB runs scheduled tasks when people visit the board, so on a quiet board it can take longer. Boards that run phpBB's cron from the server's cron job are not affected.

Claims released this way are logged in the moderator log, and nobody is notified.

Display

  • Claim icon: the Font Awesome icon that marks claimed topics. Type the class name only, starting with fa-, for example fa-eye (the default), fa-flag or fa-bookmark. phpBB 3.3 uses Font Awesome 4, so pick an icon that exists in version 4.
