The Glassify system starts automatically upon the plugging in of the Raspberry Pi.

Using the menu

Upon boot-up, it automatically enters into the menu state, which means that the buttons can be used to scroll between the menu points and set the calibration values. The left button cycles through the options while the right button can be used to select and enter one of them. Once in a menu option, the selected parameter can be increased or decreased by pressing the right or left buttons, respectively. Long pressing either of the buttons exits the menu option.

Calibration Parameters

Rest Position

Sets the resting angle of the output chute, which angle also coincides with the position at which the clear bottles are outputted at. This angle should always be kept in the centre and this parameter should only be adjusted in the unlikely case the servo has been knocked out of its place. The maximum and minimum angles the rest position can be set to depend on the value of the separation angle parameter.

Separation Angle

Sets the angular difference between the positions the servo turns to for outputting the differently coloured glasses, i.e. the angle between the amber and clear as well as between clear and green output positions. This value is blocked to be set higher than 45° and decreases depending on the values of the rest position parameter.

Halt time

This parameter defines how long the output chute stays in a position after classification, before returning to the resting state. The default values is 1 second (1000 ms) which can be adjusted in steps of 100 ms.

Inputting Bottles

The system is designed to be very responsive in case a bottle is thrown in. If a bottle is detected at the input, the system immediately disables the menu and enters sorting mode. The user does not have to start or adjust anything, the device will sort the inputted bottle based on its colour. A short while after the bottle is sorted the system returns into the menu mode.
