MarkLens 1.0.1
The five-second close on Windows, fixed. Linux was never affected. Both installers, the portable zip, the .deb and the AppImage are below with SHA256SUMS.
Fixed
- Closing the window on Windows took over five seconds, with the window
still on screen the whole time. The Flutter template'sFlutterWindow
destructor lets its engine controller die as a plain member, and a
unique_ptrdestructor does not clear the pointer first — so messages
arriving during the teardown were handed to a half-destroyed engine. The
template'sWM_DESTROYpath nulls the pointer explicitly; the plugin call
the shell left by (window_manager.destroy(), a barePostQuitMessage)
skipped that path. The destructor now resets the pointer itself, and the
shell leaves byclose()so the stock path runs. Measured on the reference
machine withtool/exit_timing/measure_exit.ps1: 5.1–5.9 s before, the
window hidden at ~90 ms and the process gone at ~120–180 ms after
(doc 03, "App exit"). - Exit is now an explicit, bounded sequence (doc 03): write everything, ask
the watchers to stop and wait for them within a bound, release the
single-instance lock, hide, close. A step that does not answer is named in
the diagnostic log and the exit goes on; nothing on disk depends on it. - A setting changed in the quarter second before exit was lost. Doc 05 said
disposal flushed it, and nothing disposed anything on the real exit path. - The watchers were never asked to stop on exit; on Windows each is an isolate,
and one nobody asks is torn down by the VM instead. Now asked, and awaited. - Two clicks on the close button started two shutdowns. A second close now
joins the first.

MarkLens 1.0.0
The first release. A small, fast, read-only Markdown viewer for Windows and
Ubuntu — GFM rendering with highlighted code, images and a front-matter panel;
sidebar, tabs, outline, find in file and across open files; auto-reload on
external change; and an English, Vietnamese or Japanese interface.
It never writes to your documents. Its only writes are two JSON files in its own
config directory, and the only network traffic is an opt-in update check.
Before you install
Windows needs the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable (x64).
Flutter links against the MSVC runtime and does not bundle it, so on a Windows
that has never had one installed — a fresh machine, a VM, a Sandbox — MarkLens
will not start, and the message names VCRUNTIME140_1.dll or MSVCP140.dll
rather than anything useful. Most machines already have it. This applies to the
portable zip as well as the installer.
The installer is not code-signed, so SmartScreen will warn on download.
Verify with SHA256SUMS below instead. Windows may also ask "How do you want to
open this?" once — an installer can register a handler but cannot set the
default, which Windows reserves for a choice you make yourself.
On Debian/Ubuntu use apt, not dpkg -i — dpkg does not resolve
dependencies:
sudo apt install ./marklens_1.0.0_amd64.deb
The .deb is built on Ubuntu 22.04 for glibc compatibility and is verified on
26.04.1. The AppImage needs no install; chmod +x and run.
Verify your download
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS --ignore-missing
Tested on
Windows 10, Windows 11 Sandbox, Ubuntu 26.04.1.
