Wattle Notes 0.1.12 — macOS, Linux and Windows alpha
Google sign-in is built into the macOS, Linux and Windows downloads, using the same production Desktop OAuth client. Users do not need to create a Google Cloud client or import configuration.
- macOS Apple Silicon: download the ZIP, or use Settings → App updates to install numeric version 0.1.12.
- Linux x64: download the DEB package.
- Windows x64: download the EXE installer or MSI package.
- Standard native release build commands now require Google configuration. Each packaged platform passes a check for the intended client parameters in its compiled executable.
The app is named Wattle Notes. Legacy new_notes_id Markdown fields, org.newnotes.desktop app/credential identity and saved theme preference keys are deliberately retained so this update preserves existing note identities, settings, credentials and sync history. Do not rename those fields manually; changing persisted identities needs a tested migration across app versions.
The existing updater signing key and signed-version verification remain unchanged. Automatic signed updates currently serve macOS Apple Silicon; update Windows and Linux manually from this release. The Mac bundle is ad-hoc signed, not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. Windows installers are unsigned. Platform signing/trust warnings may apply. Packaged Windows/Linux interactive Google sign-in, restart, sync and restore acceptance remain pending; successful builds verify configuration rather than live authorization.
Validation: 105 frontend, 20 Node, nine archive verifier and 52 core integration checks passed locally, with lint, formatting and the dependency security gate. All five source CI jobs and both configured Linux/Windows packaging jobs passed, including native tests, strict Clippy and browser checks. Release artifact sizes, hashes, source identity and Mac updater signatures are verified before publication. No personal notebooks, user tokens or settings are bundled.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. Matching source is GPL-3.0-or-later. Website files, private build inputs, AGENTS.md and local continuity files are excluded from source and app archives.
Wattle Notes 0.1.11 — notebook deletion during sync
Fixes the notebook trash button being disabled throughout Google Drive sync.
- Open the notebook deletion confirmation while a sync is active and choose Delete after sync. The current pass finishes first, then pending edits are saved before the folder moves to local Trash.
- Cancel a waiting deletion with Keep notebook, the close button or Escape. New automatic/reconnect sync passes yield to the confirmed deletion.
- Reject delayed deletion requests if the workspace changed, while retaining the native idle-only safety guard, workspace-root protection and whole-notebook recovery.
Retains the macOS bundle-signing repair and dependency security fixes. The full app is ad-hoc signed and its ZIP resource seal is checked before distribution. It is not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized; macOS may still require System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway.
Google sign-in remains built in. The existing updater trust key, notebook locations, Markdown format and encrypted cloud payloads are retained. Update to numeric version 0.1.11 through Settings → App updates, or download the Mac ZIP below.
Validation: 105 frontend, 15 Node, 9 archive-verifier, 52 core integration and 13 native module checks, all 17 browser checks, strict Clippy, lint and formatting. CI also runs cross-platform native checks. Fixtures are synthetic and real notebooks are not used.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. macOS Apple Silicon developer alpha. Matching source is GPL-3.0-or-later. Website files, private build inputs, AGENTS.md and local continuity documents are excluded.
Wattle Notes 0.1.10 — macOS bundle signing fix
Fixes the macOS “app is damaged” packaging fault in the 0.1.9 alpha.
The previous ZIP was intact, but its app had only the executable’s linker signature rather than a complete signed bundle. This release explicitly ad-hoc signs the full app, sealing its Info.plist and resources. Release preparation now rejects an invalid bundle before staging either the ZIP or the signed updater. The archive verifier also checks a fresh ZIP extraction with macOS codesign; regression tests reject executable-only signing and changed resources even when archive checksums match.
The app is not Apple Developer ID signed or notarized. macOS may still require approval through System Settings → Privacy & Security → Open Anyway. Ad-hoc signing fixes bundle integrity; it does not establish an Apple-verified publisher. Do not disable Gatekeeper to install it. See Apple’s instructions.
Retains the SQLite 3.53.2, Rustls 0.23.46, Linux GLib backport and updater security fixes. Google sign-in is built in. The existing updater trust key, notebook locations and formats are retained. Install numeric version 0.1.10 through App updates or download the new Mac ZIP.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. macOS Apple Silicon developer alpha. Matching source is GPL-3.0-or-later; local continuity files, private build inputs and website files are excluded.
Wattle Notes 0.1.9 — security fixes alpha
Superseded by 0.1.10 alpha. The 0.1.9 Mac app fails bundle-signature verification and may be reported as damaged. Use the corrected 0.1.10 package or a later release.
Security fixes for the macOS Apple Silicon developer alpha.
- Updates the bundled SQLite engine to 3.53.2 and Rustls to 0.23.46, addressing the dependency scan findings.
- Enables defensive SQLite settings and verifies compatibility with an index created by the previous engine.
- Removes unused legacy updater ZIP support and backports the upstream GLib iterator safety fix required by the Linux GTK3 stack.
- Adds dependency minimum-version and local-patch integrity checks to CI, with updated source and license notices.
Google sign-in remains built in. Existing local Markdown notes, settings and updater trust are preserved. Install this numeric version 0.1.9 through Settings → App updates, or download the Mac ZIP below.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. This is an alpha; the Mac build is unsigned by Apple and not notarized. Five unmaintained-dependency warnings remain; the repeat npm and Rust scans report no known vulnerability alerts. The Linux backport is additionally checked independently because registry scanners skip local path dependencies.
Assets include the Mac app, matching GPL-3.0-or-later source, checksums and signed updater payload. Website files and local continuity documents are excluded. See docs/dependency-security.md in the source for details and follow-up work.
Wattle Notes 0.1.8 — notebook deletion alpha
Wattle Notes 0.1.8 alpha adds notebook and folder deletion with recovery.
- Use the trash button beside a notebook to delete its folder after confirmation.
- Restore the full folder from Settings & tools → History & trash → Deleted notebooks → Restore notebook, including nested pages, attachments, empty subnotebooks and unindexed files.
- Full folder recovery copies stay on the device where you deleted the notebook. Page and attachment deletions/restorations sync normally; empty folders remain local organization.
- Save pending editor text before deletion. Refuse unsafe paths, unresolved conflicts, occupied restore destinations and duplicate page identities. The workspace root cannot be deleted, and folder operations wait for sync to finish.
- Recover interrupted moves and attempt rollback if indexing fails. Restore identical attachment bytes as a live revision rather than leaving them marked deleted.
Validated with synthetic data: 99 frontend, 10 Node release, 6 archive-verifier, 50 core integration and 11 native module checks (61 unique Rust checks), plus 17 browser interactions, lint/build, strict Clippy and formatting. Includes two-vault encrypted deletion/restoration, restart recovery and simulated indexing failures. No new live Google-account or interactive packaged updater acceptance is claimed.
Google sign-in remains built in. Existing notebooks, connection settings and the signed updater trust key are preserved. Website implementation, AGENTS.md and local current-state files are excluded from this source release.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. GPL-3.0-or-later. Apple Silicon macOS alpha, unsigned by Apple and not notarized. Updater archives are signed with the established updater key.
Download wattle-notes-macos-arm64.zip for manual installation, or choose Settings & tools → Settings → App updates → Check for updates in an updater-enabled build. Matching source, checksums and signed updater files are attached.
Wattle Notes 0.1.7 — sync transfer fixes alpha
Wattle Notes 0.1.7 alpha corrects sync progress that made routine checks appear to transfer the entire notebook.
- Count actual downloads and mirror uploads; metadata checks now show “Checking Drive…”.
- Preserve unchanged local attachment files and timestamps.
- Cache acknowledged upload versions so this device does not download its own new uploads again on the next pass.
- Keep conservative authentication when upload completion metadata is missing or uncertain, and retain changed-version and missing-history checks.
- Explain the periodic 30-second check for changes from other devices. Unchanged notebooks transfer no files; local edits still sync automatically.
Tests with 100 synthetic notes and 100 attachments verify zero transfers on idle passes, only the edited note's history entry and readable mirror uploaded after one edit, and one new history download for an edit from another device. Existing interruption, integrity and concurrent-edit checks pass. This is automated transport validation, not a new live Google-account acceptance test.
Google sign-in remains built in. Existing notebooks, connection settings and the signed updater trust key are preserved.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. GPL-3.0-or-later. Apple Silicon macOS alpha, unsigned by Apple and not notarized.
Download wattle-notes-macos-arm64.zip for manual installation, or choose Settings & tools → Settings → App updates → Check for updates in an updater-enabled build. Matching source, checksums and signed updater files are attached.
Wattle Notes 0.1.6 — responsive sync alpha
Wattle Notes 0.1.6 alpha fixes sync making local images, saves and Google connection settings appear stuck in notebooks with many attachments.
- Keep local image rendering and editing responsive while Drive requests wait.
- Show the current sync phase and item counts in Settings, with counts in the main toolbar.
- Avoid repeated Drive folder listings for each note and attachment, and speed up local note lookups.
- Safely retain edits made during transfers for a later pass when their attachment or history dependencies are not uploaded yet.
- Offer retry when Google connection settings fail to load.
Validated using 100 synthetic notes and 100 attachments, fresh-folder restore, paused/failing network requests, concurrent edits and browser image decoding/autosave during sync. This is not a new live Google-account acceptance test. Image failures unrelated to an active sync still need a reproducible link.
Google sign-in remains built in. Includes signed in-app updating from compatible earlier Apple Silicon alphas. Existing notebooks and connection settings are preserved.
Wattle Notes 0.1.5 — Google sign-in cleanup alpha
Wattle Notes 0.1.5 alpha removes developer Google OAuth setup from the distributed app. Users use the built-in Sign in with Google flow; production no longer shows client-creation instructions, JSON import or manual client fields, including while account settings load. Existing notebook configuration, notes and credentials are preserved.
Includes signed in-app updating from compatible earlier Apple Silicon alphas.
Mostly vibe coded with AI assistance. GPL-3.0-or-later. Apple Silicon macOS alpha, unsigned by Apple and not notarized. This release does not establish new live cloud or Windows/Linux packaged acceptance.
Download wattle-notes-macos-arm64.zip for manual installation, or check Settings & tools → Settings → App updates in an updater-enabled build. Matching source, checksums and signed updater files are attached.
Wattle Notes 0.1.4 — Google Drive alpha
Google sign-in is now built into the Mac app. Open Settings & tools → Google Drive → Sign in with Google. Users do not need to create a Google Cloud project or import an OAuth client JSON. The maintainer’s Desktop OAuth client is configured for production.
The maintainer confirmed successful live Google sign-in, encrypted sync and restoration into a fresh folder on 16 October 2026. This is owner-reported acceptance; broader multi-device conflict recovery, quota/interruption/revocation cases, recovery-key restoration and live Nextcloud backup remain open.
Privacy Policy and Terms of Service links are visible beside sign-in. The release includes the new Terms page in matching website source and updated Google setup guidance. Existing notebooks and their saved client configuration are retained.
This project is mostly vibe coded with AI assistance, guided by the maintainer’s ideas and feedback. Source is GPL-3.0-or-later.
Apple Silicon Mac alpha. The app remains unsigned by Apple and not notarized. Windows/Linux packaged interactive acceptance and an independent security audit remain outstanding. Keep independent backups.
Existing updater-enabled installs can check Settings & tools → Settings → App updates, then choose Install update and restart. Version 0.1.2 has Settings directly in the sidebar. Install manually once if using 0.1.1 or earlier.
Assets include the Mac ZIP, matching source ZIP, signed updater payload and signature, alpha feed, checksums and alpha README. Updater signatures are separate from Apple signing. Historical releases remain available.
Wattle Notes 0.1.3 — developer alpha
Expandable notebooks now show compact pages underneath. Select a notebook before creating a page. Settings, history, trash, cloud connections and appearance are grouped under a collapsible Settings & tools area. Expansion preferences are remembered; search and tags work across notebooks. Existing Markdown files stay in place.
Includes fixes for page moves into collapsed notebooks and compact window layouts.
This project is mostly vibe coded with AI assistance, guided by the maintainer's ideas and feedback. Source is GPL-3.0-or-later.
