ImageFont.getsize returns only a half of the height

If I currently generate with ImageFont.getsize tuple it returns something like (100, 8) for the font size 14 what it is from my viewpoint a bug.

I have tested it with FreeMonoBold (from ubuntu).

The result you're getting is from the bounding box of the rendered text string that you're passing in. It varies based on descenders, ascenders, and if you're using the full height or just the x height.

It seems that PIL returned the whole size as block (with the full height) and Pillow returns the bounding box. I solved it for now by hardcoding a font size (height).
Is there any way how to get the old behaviour back?

Take a look at imagefont.getmetrics().
