QOD August 2026
Welcome to the August 2026 QOD sessions.
Simply watch the YouTube Livestream and comment on the day, or catch the recording if you can't make the live session.

Virtual events will be taking place online (see links below) and in the links shared in the telegram group, all events are live-streamed on YouTube. See the individual event descriptions below for an indication of where to join each event.

Description: A monthly segment of the QGIS Open Day dedicated to keeping the community informed and up to date. Each session covers the latest happenings across the QGIS ecosystem, including recent releases with changelogs and notable fixes, active grant proposals, and upcoming or past conference updates. We'll also walk through the QGIS news feed, download statistics, usage analytics from analytics.qgis.org, and Hetzner bandwidth data to give a transparent view of project health and growth. On the documentation and web side, we'll highlight updates to the docs, website changes, and the current LTR status. QEPs (QGIS Enhancement Proposals) under discussion will be summarized, along with notable threads from the mailing lists and minutes from PSC meetings. Rounding out each session are translation updates and open floor time for general community discussion. Not every topic will be covered every month, the agenda adapts to what's active and relevant, but this is our go-to monthly pulse check on everything QGIS.

Description: The main goal of this session is to sketch out, and discuss with the community, a viable and almost completed way to properly rival ESRI's Network Analyst. The discussion basis will be the Valhalla QGIS plugin and our near-future integration of VROOM, a complex VRP solver.

Description: A walkthrough of creating a large-format historical and topographical map tracing the migration of the Samburu people. This session will explore spatial data management, cartographic visual hierarchy, and key plugins in the QGIS ecosystem. Lewis will also discuss practical workarounds for rendering challenges such as navigating the group clip/mask bug when working with map themes.
You can do this too! We really encourage others to follow our initiative, using the wiki page link below to organise your plans (just add a section below the last one). You can host virtual meetups in the Jitsi room, plan your next steps to take QGIS further down the road to world domination and much much more. We encourage language and region-specific huddles, documentation improvement sessions, bug fixing, making beautiful maps, and working together to do amazing things with QGIS.
We would really love to see more events offered from our country user groups and broader user base. The content can be at any skill level and in any language you like, and the times can overlap if needed. So please feel free to organise your activities on this wiki page. The QGIS Open Day is also an ideal time to hold virtual country user group meet-ups - please share your activities on the open day schedule, so that even people from outside of your country user group can benefit from your presentations. On Friday, 28 August 2026 we will be holding our monthly QGIS Open Day! What is a QGIS Open Day you may be wondering to yourself? It is an initiative to replace the wonderful community meetups we used to hold every six months when times were different. Like our in-person meetings, the event is organised on the principle of self-organisation and community participation.

All the events are recorded and made available to users who couldn't make the live events. Youtube live streams are automatically available for catch-up viewing.
