Speech-to-text

QUIK has integrated Speech-to-text (STT) functionality. In the message screen there is a button in the top right corner of the screen. It is a STT button, that will open up the system STT functionality, or other apps with that functionality. This button can be long-pressed to move it anywhere on the message screen. If you would like to hide it, head to the settings screen and toggle the Show the Speech to Text button.

Configuring Speech-to-text

In order to use QUIK with the STT functionality, you will need a STT engine on your device. The default for most OS is Google's speech services, but if your OS does not have that, we recommend either of the following:

Once you have those installed, you can get it configured to work with QUIK.

  • Grant the app the necessary permissions.
  • Open your OS Settings and navigate to System > Languages > Speech.
  • Select your installed engine as the system Speech input.
  • Tap the STT button in QUIK, and speak your messages into existence 😁

Text-to-speech

QUIK has the ability to read messages to you, using the integrated system Text-to-speech (TTS). There are multiple ways to use this function.

  • Speak messages from a notification. To configure this set Speak as an option in Settings > Notifications > Actions.
  • Speak latest message of a conversation. This is possible by configuring the swipe actions to speak the latest message. To do so, head to Settings > Swipe Actions, and select speak on either the right or left swipe.
  • Speak unread messages. QUIK can speak all your unread messages using a widget. To configure this, hold down the app icon and select Widgets and then add the Speak Unread Messages widget to your home screen.
