Release list
Monkey TV v0.06-alpha — Build #1
Summary
- New integrated Home, Services, and Settings workspace with an artwork-first streaming launcher and in-app service editing.
- Unified VPN Location experience for Direct, United States, Canada, and United Kingdom, plus optional per-service route preferences.
- Improved service launch progress, persistent website permissions, portable storage/recovery, and native VPN-helper maintenance.
This is an alpha release. Real provider sign-in, protected playback, fullscreen, permissions, and Nord routing/containment paths still require hands-on testing with real accounts and credentials.
Monkey TV v0.05-alpha — Build #1
Monkey TV v0.05-alpha — Build #1
Experimental release with opt-in VPN Location V2 and the optimized complete portable package.
- Keeps Current Location v1/SOCKS5 as the default.
- Adds the optional V2 USA, Canada, and United Kingdom workflow using official downloaded Nord UDP configurations.
- Includes the app-owned Fixed WebView2 Runtime and the V2 helper in the complete archive.
- The archive is clean: no profiles, credentials, logs, or downloaded VPN configurations.
Download MonkeyTV-v0.05-Alpha_Build_1.7z for the complete V2 package. The separately attached EXE is also provided as the direct executable asset.
Monkey TV v0.04-alpha — Build #5
Build #5
- Added separate YouTube Desktop and Smart TV built-in services.
- Polished Manage Services, Home-card feedback, service overflow actions, and Current Location selection/reconnect handling.
- Fixed Square artwork layout and false errors during known provider login redirects.
Alpha: Current Location is browser-proxy routing, not a full-device VPN. Provider availability, Nord authentication, and streaming playback still need hands-on testing.
Monkey TV v0.04-alpha — Build #4
Fixed
- Fixed a startup crash when opening Manage Services. Region/filter change events can no longer run before the built-in service collection has been initialized.
- Manage Services now safely opens from first-time setup and normal use, including initial region selection, filtering, and search.
Verification
- Release build completed with zero errors and warnings.
- The available automated smoke suite passed.
Alpha notes
Streaming-provider playback, login persistence, DRM, and hands-on Manage Services behavior should still be tested with your own Windows 11 setup. Current Location remains optional browser-level Nord SOCKS5 routing, not a full-device VPN or an absolute zero-leak boundary.
Monkey TV v0.04-alpha — Build #3
Fixed
- The startup splash now closes before Monkey TV displays any startup dialog, including the alpha warning, first-time setup, configuration recovery, and unclean-start recovery.
- The splash still closes normally when Monkey TV Home has rendered.
Verification
- Release build completed with zero errors and warnings.
- The available automated smoke suite passed.
Alpha notes
Current Location remains optional browser-level Nord SOCKS5 routing, not a full-device VPN or an absolute zero-leak boundary. Monkey TV starts Direct and does not reconnect Nord automatically. Real Nord authentication, streaming-provider playback/DRM, fullscreen, startup dialogs, and the latest UI/lifecycle changes still need hands-on testing.
Monkey TV v0.04-alpha — Build #2
What’s new since Build #1
- Polished Home into a responsive, artwork-led streaming launcher with service-card interaction and custom drag-and-drop ordering.
- Added the built-in Default Services / Manage Services library, including bundled official artwork, filtering, bulk selection, and safe built-in/custom service handling.
- Refined service viewing with Forward navigation, keyboard navigation shortcuts, restart and site-data actions, a subtle navigation indicator, and clearer error details.
- Corrected Escape handling so an active streaming website owns Esc while Monkey TV fullscreen is active; Home can resume the suspended service.
- Reorganized Settings with focused General, Home, Appearance, Streaming, Storage, and About sections.
- Added startup, fullscreen, close-confirmation, motion, new-custom-service experience, and external-link preferences.
- Hardened storage and recovery: safe temporary-data cleanup, reset-all-website-data, bounded diagnostics, rotating known-good configuration backups, corrupted-config recovery, startup recovery mode, and reset-with-backup support.
- Added an optional portable Data-location move. A copied app folder on a different PC automatically returns to its adjacent default Data folder.
Current Location (alpha)
Current Location remains optional browser-level Nord SOCKS5 geographic routing, not a full-device VPN or absolute zero-leak boundary. Monkey TV always starts Direct; it never reconnects Nord automatically. QUIC is disabled in Monkey TV’s WebView and WebRTC protection is best effort. Real Nord authentication, provider compatibility, streaming playback, and WebRTC behavior require manual alpha testing.
Known alpha limitations / testing requested
This build has passed the available automated smoke suite and a clean Release build. Please hands-on test the new Home, service lifecycle/resume, toolbar actions, Settings, storage/recovery prompts, custom Data location, Current Location, login persistence, fullscreen, and streaming-provider playback with your own accounts. Provider-specific DRM/playback compatibility is not claimed.
Monkey TV v0.04-alpha — Build #1
Current Location
- Added optional Current Location first-run setup. You can configure it now or skip it completely and enable it later from Settings.
- Current Location always starts as Direct. Monkey TV does not reconnect to NordVPN, check a proxy endpoint, contact a provider, or create a service WebView automatically at startup.
- Added global, manual browser-level geographic routing through NordVPN's officially documented SOCKS5 locations. NordVPN service credentials—not normal Nord Account credentials—are protected with Windows DPAPI.
- The Home control is optional. Turning it off safely returns Monkey TV to Direct before hiding it, without deleting saved service credentials.
- Route changes are verified before an active service reloads; failed Nord routes remain blocked rather than silently falling back to Direct.
Also included
- Added the supplied Monkey TV branding and 46 compact built-in service banners with a categorized artwork picker.
- Preserved the shared WebView2/profile, Home resume behavior, service launch transition, cache lifecycle, fullscreen, popup, download, and permission handling.
Alpha limitations
Current Location is browser-proxy routing for Monkey TV only, not a full device VPN or an absolute WebRTC/UDP leak-proof boundary. Real Nord SOCKS5 authentication, each endpoint's availability, streaming-provider playback, DRM behavior, and WebRTC behavior require manual testing with valid Nord service credentials.
Monkey TV v0.0.3-alpha — Build #1
What's changed
- Added a fast Fluent-inspired startup splash and kept startup completely local—no streaming service is loaded until selected.
- Added System, Light, and Dark themes plus restrained accent choices.
- Fixed ComboBox text contrast across themes, including open, selected, hovered, and disabled states.
- Added safe window size, position, and maximized-state restoration with off-screen recovery.
- Polished responsive Home, Settings, dialogs, service launching, errors, and shutdown states.
- Added controlled WebView2 popup/auth-window support without tabs or extra normal service browsers.
- Added deliberate external-link, permission, and download handling.
- Prevented accidental browser zoom while retaining Monkey TV's normal keyboard shortcuts.
- Improved service failure/retry and temporary connection-recovery behavior.
- Preserved the single shared WebView/profile, same-service resume, cache lifecycle, portable Data layout, and Home pause/mute behavior.
Known alpha limitations
- Provider account, DRM playback, authentication popups, and provider-specific fullscreen behavior still require manual testing with real accounts.
- Popup classification is intentionally conservative; unusual provider flows may open in the default browser or require refinement.
- Downloads use a Windows save dialog but Monkey TV is not a download manager.
- The WebView2 Evergreen Runtime must be installed on the Windows 11 PC.
Monkey TV v0.0.2-alpha — Build #2
Monkey TV v0.0.2-alpha - Build #2
Basic changelog
- Reworked service viewing into one reusable WebView2 and one shared persistent browser profile for every configured service.
- Same-service Home returns resume the current page; different-service selections reuse that WebView and navigate to the selected destination.
- Applied Default Experience, TV Experience, and advanced custom user-agent settings before each destination navigation, including restoring the default browser identity after TV Experience.
- Fixed the service-control overlay auto-hide cycle; it now hides after inactivity without requiring a click.
- Removed Home drag-and-drop reordering. Reordering remains available through Settings and service-card context actions.
- Migrated Build #1 profile configuration conservatively without copying cookies, credentials, or DRM state; shared Storage reporting no longer invents per-service values.
Important alpha limitations
- Existing Build #1 per-service profile folders are retained and are not merged into the new unified profile. A one-time provider login may be required in Build #2.
- Provider login, DRM, audio/video, subtitles, website fullscreen, and TV Experience compatibility remain provider-dependent and require manual testing.
- Windows 11 x64 and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen Runtime are required.
Monkey TV v0.0.2-alpha - Build #1
Monkey TV v0.0.2-alpha — Build #1
This alpha expands the first working launcher foundation into a more polished, portable service-viewing experience.
Basic changelog
- Redesigned Home with responsive Banner/Square cards, better artwork management, and drag-and-drop ordering.
- Fixed service switching and resume: Home preserves the current service only for same-service resume; opening a different service disposes the previous WebView first.
- Added Default Experience / TV Experience, centralized smart-TV UA support, and an advanced custom UA override.
- Added true F11 application fullscreen, auto-hiding service controls, top-edge reveal, and inactive-service cursor hiding.
- Added cleaner failure/offline screens, service context actions, keyboard shortcuts, backup/restore, recovery messaging, Storage, About/diagnostics, and update-check architecture groundwork.
- Reduced portable browser-data growth with shared named WebView2 profiles for new services, bounded logs, safe temporary-cache cleanup, and a 192 MiB soft cache budget.
Important alpha limitations
- Windows 11 x64 and the Microsoft Edge WebView2 Evergreen Runtime are required.
- Provider login, DRM, subtitles, and playback compatibility remain dependent on each provider and must be tested with your own account; Monkey TV does not bypass provider protections.
- Existing v0.0.1-alpha isolated profiles are retained to preserve their sessions and may still include duplicated WebView2 component data until removed or browser data is cleared.
- TV Experience is experimental; a provider may ignore it, show its normal site, or fail to work.
