v0.4.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 27 Oct 07:37

The Window section now sets the macOS app icon, and the save review can copy each file's updated text.

Features

  • On macOS, the Window section sets the app icon: the style, a custom icon file, and the frame, ghost and screen colours of a custom style
  • Each file in the save review has a Copy content button that copies its updated text

Fixes

  • A save to a read-only config, such as one that Nix generates, explains which file blocks it and changes no file. For a symlinked config, it names the link's target.
  • Copying a path reports an error when the clipboard refuses it
  • On macOS, background opacity notes that a change can show only in a new window or after a Ghostty restart

Install

brew install reemus-dev/tap/ghostty-designer   # macOS
mise use -g github:reemus-dev/ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux
npm install -g ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux

On Linux, install the .deb or .rpm below, or the tarball after the runtime libraries. The README lists the commands.

It needs macOS 15 or later, or glibc 2.34 or later (Ubuntu 22.04, Debian 12, Fedora 35), on arm64 or x86_64. It is tested with Ghostty 1.3.1.

The macOS app is not notarized yet. Homebrew, mise and npm installs run it as is. To open a manually downloaded app, try it once, then click Open Anyway in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

v0.3.1

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 23:57

On macOS 15, the traffic lights now sit centred in the toolbar, and a launch from a terminal prints the error when the panel cannot start.

Fixes

  • On macOS 15, the traffic lights sit centred in the toolbar, as they do on macOS 26 and later
  • A launch from a terminal waits until the panel has drawn. If the panel cannot start, it prints the error instead of the ghostty-designer demo tip.

Install

brew install reemus-dev/tap/ghostty-designer   # macOS
mise use -g github:reemus-dev/ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux
npm install -g ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux

v0.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 22:54

ghostty-designer specimen is now ghostty-designer demo, and closing the window can no longer skip the unsaved changes prompt.

Changes

  • ghostty-designer specimen is now ghostty-designer demo. It prints the same sample terminal output.
  • A launch from a terminal prints a tip about ghostty-designer demo once the window is ready, instead of ready

Fixes

  • A second close request while the unsaved changes prompt is open now waits for your answer. Before, it closed the window and dropped the changes.
  • On macOS 26 and later, the traffic lights sit centred in the toolbar again
  • The line height field shows px for a pixel adjust-cell-height, so a step or a typed number keeps pixels instead of writing a percentage
  • The line height slider reaches down to -20%, as Ghostty allows

Install

brew install reemus-dev/tap/ghostty-designer   # macOS
mise use -g github:reemus-dev/ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux
npm install -g ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux

v0.2.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 08:44

ghostty-designer is now on npm, and themes can be duplicated, renamed and deleted from the panel.

New

  • Install with npm: npx ghostty-designer or npm install -g ghostty-designer
  • Duplicate any theme, and rename or delete your own, from the theme's detail. Your draft, undo history, favourites and pinned theme follow a rename.
  • The config switcher shows whether a file uses Ghostty's config as a base before you switch to it
  • When your config's own colour lines hide part of its theme, the panel shows that theme as the base theme. Pick it again to see all of it.
  • Fonts get the ligatures tag only when their ligatures join code such as ->. Menlo, Cascadia Mono and Fira Mono lose it.
  • Cursor thickness and height show their unit, and the font variation fields show their format

Fixes

  • The Colours summary names only the theme your config or draft sets, not any theme whose colours happen to match
  • Keyboard shortcuts work while a slider has focus
  • A new value replaces a field's invalid text
  • A theme pick no longer cancels a waiting font pick
  • Clearer empty searches, path wrapping, live status in a narrow window, and an error that says how to install Ghostty when it is missing
  • Esc Esc no longer discards all changes. Use Discard all in the toolbar or the ⌘K palette.

Install

brew install reemus-dev/tap/ghostty-designer   # macOS
mise use -g github:reemus-dev/ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux
npm install -g ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux

The macOS app is not notarized yet. Homebrew, mise and npm installs run it as is. A manually downloaded app must first be allowed in System Settings → Privacy & Security.

@github-actions github-actions released this 26 Oct 04:41

The first release of ghostty-designer. It opens a control panel for Ghostty's appearance, with your own Ghostty windows as the live preview.

  • Try any of Ghostty's themes, or tune your own colours with OKLCH sliders and readability checks
  • Pin a theme beside your colours and copy the ones you like
  • Pick fonts drawn in their own face, with ligature, feature and variable-axis controls
  • Set cursor, opacity, blur, padding, titlebar and split options
  • See every change in Ghostty at once, and save to your config only when you choose
  • Edit the config of apps built on libghostty, such as cmux and Supacode

Install

brew install reemus-dev/tap/ghostty-designer   # macOS
mise use -g github:reemus-dev/ghostty-designer # macOS and Linux
