Phosphene 1.2.0

Phosphene 1.2.0 adds a Field track: a sampler for field recordings that puts a place under the music — a rainforest, a night of insects, rain, a river, a cave, a machine hall, the wind on Mars.

Downloads

• Phosphene-1.2.0-Setup.exe — installs the standalone and the VST3 and fetches the data (wavetables, learned models, spoken phrases) from Phosphene-data-1.2.0.zip below. With the component "Field recordings" ticked (the default) it also downloads the Field track's recordings, 2 GB, from the release field-data-1. Untick it and everything else plays; only the Field track and the NASA shots stay silent.
• Phosphene-1.2.0-portable.zip — the program in one archive, nothing to install. For the Field track unpack the two archives of field-data-1 beside Phosphene.exe.
• Phosphene-Manual.pdf — every tab as a picture, every parameter, the signal flow; new chapter "Field".
• PhospheneQuest.apk — the native Meta Quest build (adb install -r PhospheneQuest.apk); the field recordings go on with adb push field /sdcard/Android/data/com.reneweller.phosphene.quest/files/. It has not yet been run on a headset.

Requirements: Windows 10 or 11 (x64) with AVX2, and a VST3 host for the plugin.

New in 1.2.0

• The Field track — a sampler, in the spirit of Kontakt: the original recordings (FLAC, not converted), two layers A and B with pitch, start and direction; a loop over any stretch of a recording, joined by an equal-power crossfade, so a recording that was not made as a loop plays as one; amp and filter envelopes, the synths' state-variable filter or nine circuit models, a low cut, and the same modulation block as the synths (mod envelope, four LFOs, eight-slot matrix). A tab of its own and a strip on the mixer.
• 157 recordings: 120 in 30 categories (forest, night, water, weather, fire, ritual, caves, machines, radio and space) and 37 of NASA's.
• 160 presets, one per recording and twenty scenes of two layered places (Jungle Night, Swamp, Machine Hall …). The composer draws one per track by style — Dark Forest always has its place, Hi-Tech least — and plays it under intros, breakdowns and outros, never in a build-up or a drop. New knob: Field Density on the Set tab. A folder of your own recordings can be added.
• Space Shot, a new effect: NASA's short recordings — a rocket launch, Sputnik's beep, Saturn's radio emissions, a quake on Mars — played whole after the cut of a breakdown.
• 196 spoken phrases instead of 31: NASA's and the radio recordings complete.
• Without the recordings the score is the same note for note and everything plays; only the Field track and the shots are silent.
