Alpha 0.0.96 · App190 · Driver193 — signed and notarized engineering prerelease

Choose a tag to compare

@bdubs426 bdubs426 released this 09 Oct 16:02

Alpha 0.0.96 is a full Apple silicon engineering prerelease: App Build 190 with its matching Driver193 and the normal 66-command CLI/MCP client. It is Developer ID signed, accepted by Apple notarization, and stapled. Use normal macOS approval; no SIP change is required. Offline playback and archive tools need no driver activation.

This release consolidates the IEC metadata implementation, epoch-aware mixed NTSC/PAL archives and byte-exact segmented exports, receive ownership and storage safeguards, portable signing tools, and the preview inspector improvements found during earlier M1 testing. The full app and fresh driver were built together from public source commit 6d23033. Signing and source correspondence do not assert independently reproducible binaries or general hardware certification.

Validation includes 527 Swift Testing cases and 14 XCTest cases, native offline playback/continuity/scrubbing, a complete 11,811-frame mixed-format archive check, receive/storage harnesses, signing negative tests, and independent package verification. A paced 360-frame offline workspace replay recorded zero skips, resets, late submissions, or failed submissions. These are software/offline results.

Earlier M1 MacBook Air observations used different builds: App188/Driver192 captured 452 complete NTSC DV frames with SIP enabled; developer-mode state remained unknown. Preview stutter was reported while saved playback appeared smooth. App189 preview changes passed a bounded paced offline replay and inspector interactions, but physical live-preview retesting remains outstanding. An App189 Open DV chooser visibility observation over Screen Sharing remains unresolved; the MacBook Air is currently unavailable. Neither result qualifies this new package on the M1.

PAL acquisition, HDV workflows, broad deck/controller compatibility, full-tape endurance, and live extension unload remain unqualified. VAUX 0x61 interpretation remains unresolved; raw evidence is preserved. The approved release PCI match is 0x590111C1. Preserve the previous app and completed captures before changing installations. Read the tagged installation and limitations documents before hardware use.

Alpha 0.0.94 — offline-only engineering prerelease

This separately labelled download contains rewindDV Offline / app build 188
and the arm64 rewinddv CLI. No DriverKit extension is included. Driver
discovery, activation, deck control and physical acquisition are disabled. The
complete source independently retains Driver 192 for hardware-capable builds;
that source identity is not a packaged hardware feature in this download.

The app and CLI are signed ad hoc with hardened runtime, not with an Apple
Developer ID, and are not notarized. Apple silicon arm64; app deployment floor
macOS 26; source toolchain Xcode 27. Offline operations require no SIP change.
The offline app's bundle identity is net.rewinddigital.RewindDV.Offline, with a
separate sandbox container and CLI socket from the hardware-capable app.

  • Integrated IEC metadata inventory covers 256 pack allocations and 274 layout
variants. Raw bytes, conflicting observations and unknown regions are preserved.
This is software classification coverage, not complete semantic support or IEC
certification. VAUX 0x61 interpretation remains unresolved.
  • Epoch-aware mixed NTSC/PAL archives retain source-bound recording-system
boundaries, evidence maps and ordered byte-exact lossless segmented exports.
Mixed-system single-file merging and film/container output reject explicitly
with a segmented-export alternative. Original captures are never replaced.
  • Playback, metadata inspection, Surgery, maps/review, offline multi-pass analysis
and recovery-plan preparation remain available. The CLI/MCP exposes 57 offline
tools and rejects hardware commands locally before connecting to the app.
  • Complete source includes the accepted Driver 192 receive-ownership improvements.
Fresh source checks pass 527 Swift Testing cases and 14 XCTest cases, focused
release/status/disclosure checks, native app/driver/CLI compilation, and earlier
measured native mixed-format playback and metadata/archive component checks.
Exact restored-ZIP startup, signatures, permissions, hashes and CLI filtering
are separately verified. These are software checks.

Limits: the complete signed-application workflow and displayed-pixel/metadata
association remain unqualified. HDV playback/capture, physical PAL capture,
Driver 192 acquisition, natural end-of-tape, full-tape endurance, broad hardware
compatibility and live driver unload/hot replacement remain unqualified. Earlier
bounded B190 development-signed NTSC capture evidence applies only to its tested
setup and does not qualify this download. Byte consistency does not establish
flawless audiovisual content or uninterrupted hardware transport.

An earlier full ad-hoc Alpha 0.0.94 candidate failed startup on a SIP-enabled
host because of restricted DriverKit entitlements and was not published. Earlier
full downloads remain historical; their SIP-disabled test-system workflow is
separate from this offline distribution. No security changes were made to qualify
this offline package.

Read the tagged offline instructions.
Keep the previous app for rollback and open this extracted copy without replacing
installed hardware software or interrupting a capture. macOS may require its
normal Privacy & Security review for a downloaded unnotarized app. External
source/destination paths require a GUI sandbox grant for the current session.
Quit and remove the extracted offline copy to roll back; no driver removal is
needed for this package. Preserve original media and independent backups.

@bdubs426 bdubs426 released this 07 Oct 01:43

Alpha 0.0.93 / Driver B190 — engineering prerelease

This download includes the rewindDV application, independent Driver B190, and the native arm64 rewinddv CLI / stdio MCP client. App build188 and driver build190 are separate identities. All three executables are freshly built from the exact reviewed public source and signed ad hoc with hardened runtime.

  • Saved raw DV25 playback opens with frame-local reads without automatic whole-file indexing. Rapid scrubbing prioritizes the latest request, and selected-frame metadata follows gesture release. Exact coordinates and full-file source assessment remain explicit scans; preview duration and ordinals are estimates.
  • Surgery makes separate byte-preserving DV assemblies with source mappings, hashes and reviewed frame ranges.
  • 66 local CLI/MCP tools control playback, Surgery, archive inspection, evidence maps, review, multi-pass comparison and recovery-plan preparation through the running app's existing operation guards. Start the app and accept its alpha notice before using ./rewinddv status or ./rewinddv mcp. External source/destination paths require a GUI sandbox grant for the current session. Driver activation and physical supervised recovery remain interactive.
  • The automation bridge bounds socket client I/O, keeps it off the app main thread, rejects malformed MCP arguments, and retains operation locks and supervised STOP rules.

Known limits: mixed NTSC/PAL seeking can reach a position while the inspector remains unassociated with the displayed source frame. This remains unresolved. Session-scoped sandbox grants may need renewal after app restart. HDV playback, physical PAL/HDV capture, natural end-of-tape, full-tape completion, broad hardware compatibility and live driver unload/hot replacement remain unqualified.

Ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Driver installation requires disabling SIP, which reduces macOS security. Use a backed-up dedicated test Mac and read INSTALL.md and UNINSTALL.md. No developer account, device registration, profile download or local re-signing is required. Ad-hoc signing checks integrity; it is not an Apple-verified publisher or normal notarized SIP-on distribution. Offline playback, Surgery and inspection do not require driver activation.

This exact public package has not been installed or physically qualified. The public-source build passes 273 Swift Testing cases, 14 XCTest cases, native app/driver/CLI compilation and release/status/disclosure regressions. Restored-ZIP signatures, architectures, modes, manifest and hashes are verified separately. These are software checks. Earlier Alpha 0.0.89 / B190 development-signed evidence remains limited to bounded NTSC DV captures, normal capture STOP and re-entry on one Sony HVR-M15U / Apple silicon / macOS27.0.1 setup; it is not new qualification of this download.

Normal capture STOP keeps the driver loaded. Live extension disable, hot replacement and reboot-free removal remain unqualified. Finish capture, stop tape motion and use the documented shutdown/restart maintenance procedure. Do not use extension disable as a capture-session STOP.

  • Apple silicon: app and CLI arm64, driver arm64e. App deployment floor macOS26; source toolchain Xcode27. Intel is unsupported.
  • Supported controller: PCI11c1:5901 with the tested Apple Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter chain; USB-to-FireWire cables are not a substitute.
  • Exact public package source: 482cf2fcdee763535dd5e69a658886accce20f36.
  • ZIP SHA-256: 1d72e36932700230d2be98e66dc8718e514761576a9e2c6ae867861cdbff23e8.

Download the ZIP, its checksum sidecar, manifest.json and provenance.json from this release. Verify the checksum and signatures before use. Original captures are never replaced. Matching saved-byte hashes establish byte consistency, not flawless audiovisual content or uninterrupted hardware transport.

@bdubs426 bdubs426 released this 06 Oct 04:02

Alpha 0.0.89 / Driver B190 — engineering prerelease

Current development is Alpha 0.0.89 / app188 / Driver B190. This download freshly builds both application and driver from the exact reviewed public source, with independent app and driver identities.

The source hardens DMA retirement, transaction identity, device-generation lifetimes, dispatch/callback ownership and native cancellation completion lifetimes. Normal capture STOP keeps the driver loaded. B190 development-signed testing passed five bounded NTSC DV captures on one Sony HVR-M15U setup, including same-session and fresh-app re-entry, about sixty seconds and a four-minute operator-stopped job. The longest saved DV was 238.038 seconds. Each capture retained two continuity observations after empty packets and one terminal partial frame; exact missing-frame counts and source quality remain unknown.

This exact public ad-hoc package has not been installed or physically qualified. Fresh public-source compilation, Swift/XCTest and release/disclosure checks passed; its ZIP, signatures, entitlements and provenance were independently reviewed. These checks do not extend hardware qualification. Full-tape completion was intentionally omitted for the current candidate; physical PAL/HDV capture, natural EOT, broader hardware and reset/disconnect behavior remain unqualified.

Ad-hoc signed, not notarized. Installation requires disabling SIP, which reduces macOS security. Use a backed-up dedicated test Mac and read INSTALL.md and UNINSTALL.md. No developer account, provisioning profile download or local re-signing is required. This is not normal SIP-on distribution or an Apple-verified publisher identity.

Live extension disable/unload, hot replacement and reboot-free removal remain unqualified. Finish capture, use normal tape STOP and verification, quit the app, then use the documented shutdown/restart maintenance procedure. Do not use global extension disable as a capture-session STOP or repeatedly retry a terminating driver. Removal/replacement begins with a normal shutdown, disconnecting FireWire while powered off, and a fresh boot with the adapter disconnected.

  • Apple silicon: application arm64, driver arm64e. App deployment floor macOS26; source toolchain Xcode27. Bounded runtime evidence is on macOS27.0.1.
  • Supported controller identity: PCI11c1:5901 with the tested Apple Thunderbolt-to-FireWire adapter chain. USB-to-FireWire cables are not a substitute. Other controller identities are unsupported by this build.
  • Exact public package source: fc8d55485d081ace5d2777f3a98a6b95c9e97bf6.
  • ZIP SHA-256: 3b96ac54a90832076a5862eedc8bbe537e95d8b3c880df3fb84ae97b7949936d.

Download the ZIP, checksum sidecar, manifest.json and provenance.json from this release. Verify the ZIP checksum before expanding; follow the package's signature checks. Matching hashes establish byte consistency, not pristine audiovisual content or uninterrupted hardware continuity.

@github-actions github-actions released this 03 Oct 22:06

Alpha 0.0.81 · Driver B183 — engineering alpha

Ad-hoc signed and not notarized. Installation requires disabling System Integrity
Protection (SIP), which reduces macOS security. Intended for experienced users
and dedicated test systems. Developer ID signing, notarization and normal SIP-on
distribution remain future work.

Changes since Alpha 0.0.77

  • DV/HDV post-capture reconstruction and verification now bound temporary-object
lifetimes during long recordings. Independent rereads, hashes, retained source
evidence and exclusive publication checks remain intact. This is not a claim
about total app RAM or a promise of zero system swap.
  • Saved raw DV playback handles NTSC, PAL and transitions between them in one
file. Seeking, stepping, duration and source-frame numbering use validated DV
frame boundaries and each system's exact stored cadence. Native video decoding
and frame-based PCM follow those boundaries; source timecode is not used to
    invent missing frames.
  • Playback inspector format, dimensions, cadence, chroma, audio and recording
metadata share one identified source-frame snapshot. Playing metadata is
sampled twice per second; system changes clear stale values and pausing resolves
the selected frame. Missing or conflicting metadata stays unavailable.
  • Whole-file size and duration remain separate from sampled source properties.
The playback viewport and controls keep a fixed layout across format changes.
  • Read-only DV source auditing also drains per-frame temporary objects.

The retained Build183 driver is unchanged. These application changes have offline
validation; they do not extend physical PAL, HDV, device or endurance qualification.
The public binary uses the exact retained ad-hoc Build183 extension.

Known limits

The cancelled receive-task Stop path can suppress intermediate reconstruction or
verification progress while processing continues; the final result still arrives.
Saved raw DV playback rejects incomplete or unordered frame boundaries rather
than guessing past damaged structure. HDV playback is not qualified by this work.
Existing capture, hardware, recovery and security limitations remain documented
in the canonical project. Original captures are never rewritten by playback.

Alpha 0.0.78–0.0.80 were intermediate development builds, not public releases.
Alpha 0.0.77 remains historical and is superseded by this engineering release.
B178 remains withdrawn.

The package contains the app and reviewed installation/removal documents. The app and DriverKit extension are ad-hoc signed; no development provisioning profile is included. No local re-signing or developer-account registration is required.

Offline validation passed: 427 Swift Testing tests, 14 XCTest tests, admission, boundary, manual-stop-tail, whole-tape/recovery orchestration, PLAY callback and quit-supervision regressions, Release build and strict signature/bundle checks. The exact archive passed the personal-information audit.

Existing bounded runtime evidence covers Apple silicon, macOS 27.0.1, recorded NTSC DV and a Sony HVR-M15U. This repackaged ad-hoc artifact has not been installed or newly physically qualified. Fresh-system installation, broader macOS/deck/adapter compatibility, PAL/HDV capture, full-length endurance, natural end-of-tape and active-capture disconnect/power loss remain unverified. The supported controller match is PCI 11c1:5901. Unknown continuity and unresolved content-quality markers remain unknown; saved-byte hashes do not establish flawless audiovisual content.

Normal Developer-ID-signed, notarized, SIP-on distribution remains future work dependent on Apple distribution prerequisites. No Apple endorsement is implied.
