ScaleInKey v1.0.1

A fixes-and-polish release on top of v1.0.0.

Requirements

  • Android 14 (API 34) or newer. This is the app's minimum supported version.

Fixed

  • Deselecting a chord (tapping an already-selected chord card again) no longer plays its sound —
    only selecting a chord does.
  • Notes and chords now play correctly over each other. Previously, triggering a new note/chord
    while an earlier one was still ringing silently cancelled the earlier one's release, leaving it
    stuck on; enough stuck notes would eventually exhaust the synth's voice pool and further notes
    would stop sounding at all.

Changed

  • Toggling a chord card between its triad and 7th voicing is now a long-press on the card
    instead of tapping a small "7th" chip — the chip sat inside the card's own tap area and was
    easy to hit by accident when just meaning to select the chord. It's still shown as a visual
    indicator of the current voicing, just without its own separate tap target.
  • Ukulele now has its own distinct sound instead of sharing Guitar's nylon-string timbre.
    General MIDI has no dedicated ukulele instrument, so Ukulele now uses a Banjo patch — its
    bright, short-decay plucked character is a much closer match to a real ukulele.
  • Bass note/chord previews (tapping a chord card, or a note pill, while Bass is the active
    instrument) now play just the root note, pitched down into a real bass register — previously
    they attempted a full chord voicing centered near middle C, the same register as every other
    instrument.
  • A short last row of chord cards (e.g. 7 diatonic chords splitting into a row of 4 and a row of
    3) is now centered instead of left-aligned with empty space on the right.

Installation

Download ScaleInKey-1.0.1.apk below and sideload it (you'll need to allow installs from this
source in Android's settings). It's a signed universal APK — one file, works on any supported
device/architecture. Signed with the same key as v1.0.0, so this installs as an update over an
existing v1.0.0 install rather than requiring a fresh install.
