ScaleInKey v1.1.0
ScaleInKey v1.1.0
Adds a chord progression sequencer, plus a large pass of fixes and polish to the fretboard and
chord-chart diagrams.
Requirements
- Android 14 (API 34) or newer. This is the app's minimum supported version.
Added
- Chord progression sequencer — a new screen (switch to it via the 🎹 icon in the header) for
building an ordered sequence of the current scale's diatonic chords and playing it back at a
settable tempo. Includes a BPM stepper (default 120), beats-per-chord, a loop toggle, a chord
palette with 7th-chord entry, drag-to-reorder and tap-to-remove on queued chords, and
scroll-edge fades on the sequence row when it can scroll further. - Tapping and holding a note, fret, or chord-chart position now flashes a distinct highlight
color, giving clear visual feedback on exactly where a tap landed.
Fixed
- The virtual fretboard diagrams had their string order inverted (the lowest-pitched string was
drawn at the top instead of the bottom) — fixed for both the neck view and the fingering-chart
view. - Chord fingering numbers could suggest stretching one finger across open strings to reach two
far-apart frets, which isn't physically possible — finger assignment now follows real
open-position and barre-chord fingering conventions instead. - Selecting or deselecting a chord while fingering-chart mode was on could jump the diagram box to
a different size; the neck view, scale-position box, and chord-shape diagrams now share
consistent, content-derived sizing and animate smoothly between states instead of jumping. - Fret spacing, note-circle size, string spacing, and label text size are now consistent across
all three fretboard/chord-chart diagram types — previously each computed these independently
and came out visibly different from one another. - Fret lines in the scale-position box no longer overshoot past the last string for narrower
instruments (Ukulele/Bass). - The topmost note circle in the fingering-chart views was sometimes clipped by the box's top
edge, and the bottom circle could crowd the fret-number row for Ukulele/Bass — both now have
comfortable clearance. - The fingering-chart grids (scale-position box and chord shape) are now centered horizontally in
their box — they were previously skewed toward one side. - A queued chord in the sequencer no longer changes its triad/7th voicing retroactively if you
flip that toggle after it's already been added — each queued chord keeps the voicing it had
when placed.
Changed
- The fingering-chart diagrams (chord shape and scale-position box) are now sized 25% larger than
before for legibility, since they only ever show 4 frets at a time versus the neck view's 12. - The scale-position box (shown when fingering-chart mode is on but no chord is selected) now
shows note names instead of finger numbers, since there's no chord to finger. - Default sequencer BPM is 120 (was 100).
Installation
Download ScaleInKey-1.1.0.apk below and sideload it (you'll need to allow installs from this
source in Android's settings). It's a signed universal APK — one file, works on any supported
device/architecture. Signed with the same key as v1.0.0/v1.0.1, so this installs as an update
over an existing install rather than requiring a fresh install.
