v1.9.7: Back the moment you leave

The service comes back after a payment pause. After a payment-app pause the accessibility service sometimes looked enabled but never reconnected, so the timer stayed away. The automatic resume now switches the service fully off and back on, checks a minute later, and retries up to three times until the service reports in. The resume button in the app does the same.

Back the moment you leave. On phones where Wilt has been granted both secure-settings access and Usage access over adb (see the README), a pause now ends as soon as you leave the payment app instead of four minutes later. Without those grants nothing changes: the notification and the resume screen still take you to Settings to turn Wilt back on.

Sheets that swipe. Cats and History are now bottom sheets: they cover 85% of the screen over the dimmed home and close with a swipe down that starts anywhere in their top quarter, a tap outside them, or the chevron. The daily-limit and other small sheets swipe away from anywhere on the card, including from a button. Taps still land.

v1.9.6: The rot shows

The cat's six stages are louder, so the decay reads at the size of the floating pill and the widget, not just up close. Wilting goes green with sagging ears, mouldy gets big blotches and a clouded eye, rotting opens the skull early, nearly gone is mostly bone. Fresh and gone are unchanged.

A fix for points that were handed out before they were earned, plus a fresh kitten on the intro screen.

Points you actually banked

Today used to count toward your lifetime points at full value from the moment the app opened, so a brand-new install had 50 points, unlocked the second cat straight away, and announced it. Then the number shrank all afternoon as you scrolled.

Points now come from days that are over. Today's points show next to the total as pending and bank at midnight. Cats unlock only on banked points, so a cat you have is a cat you keep, and one you have not earned yet does not show up early. If you unlocked a cat under the old rule, it stays unlocked.

Small things

The onboarding intro shows the fresh kitten rather than a wilting one. The privacy policy has been updated for the payment pause and the new permissions.

v1.9.0: Wilt

Unhook is now Wilt, and the cat on the home screen rots along with the ones in the pill and the widget.

A new name

"Unhook" turned out to be taken on Google Play many times over, so the app is now Wilt, which is what the cat does. The package changed with it, so this release installs as a new app next to any Unhook you have. Your Unhook history stays in Unhook; Wilt starts fresh. Once Wilt is set up, uninstall Unhook so only one accessibility service is on.

The clock cat rots too

The Kit-Cat clock on the dashboard kept the old cat while the pill and widget got the kitten that rots. Now all three are the same cat. On the home screen it goes through the same six stages as the day's minutes climb: kitten, wilting, mouldy, rotting, nearly gone, and a skull at the limit. The eyes still dart and the tail still keeps time.

v1.8.0: The cat rots

The cat in the pill and on the widget now decays with your scrolling, instead of just looking a bit sadder.

Until now the cat swapped between five expressions as you closed in on your limit, and the change was easy to miss. There is now one cat, and it rots.

Fresh, it is a kitten: big eyes, pink ears, blush, whiskers, a small smile. As the minutes climb, the blush and the pink go first, the ears sag, the pupils shrink and the smile flattens. Then the fur greens and mould spreads, one eye clouds over, and the mouth turns down. Then an eye goes X and the skull starts to show through. At the limit there is only the skull.

It only moves one way inside a day, like the counters, and comes back fresh at midnight.

The pill follows it

The time in the floating pill is now coloured by the cat's state: bone while it is merely wilting, amber once the mould shows, and red once it is gone. The home-screen widget already went amber then red and keeps doing so, now with the same cat.

v1.7.0: Out of the way for payments

Unhook now steps aside for Paytm and other payment apps, so a payment never fails because of it.

Out of the way for payments

Paytm, and a growing number of UPI and banking apps, refuse to pay while any third-party accessibility service is switched on. They read the list of enabled services and stop on the amount screen with a warning that names the app. Earlier versions of Unhook triggered this, and nothing short of turning the service off satisfies it.

So now it turns itself off. The moment a payment app comes to the front, Unhook's service disables itself and posts a notification saying so. It knows a payment app two ways: a built-in list of Indian UPI and bank apps, and any app that hides its screen from accessibility services, which is what banking apps do on Android 14 and is the clearest sign of one.

Turning it back on

Open Unhook and it shows a resume screen in place of the dashboard, with one button. Android does not let an app re-enable its own accessibility service, so that button opens Accessibility settings, where Unhook Reel Counter is under Installed apps. Nothing is counted in between, and nothing else changes.

If you are comfortable with adb, two grants make it automatic. The first lets Unhook re-enable itself, from the button and on its own four minutes after each pause. The second makes that four minutes exact under Battery Saver.

What the service now sees

Outside Instagram and YouTube the service asks Android for one thing: a notice when a different app comes to the front, carrying that app's name. It reads no screen content anywhere else. The privacy policy has the full wording.
