RetroAchievements

Argosy integrates with RetroAchievements (RA) for achievement tracking across supported games played through the Built-in Emulator.

Setup

  1. Go to Settings > RetroAchievements.
  2. Sign in with your RA username and password.
  3. Achievements track automatically when playing supported games.

RA integration is only active for games played on the built-in emulator. External emulators handle their own RA support (or don't).

Casual and Hardcore modes

Each game launch chooses a mode:

  • Casual — achievements unlock normally. Save states, cheats, rewind, and fast-forward all work without restriction.
  • Hardcore — stricter rules for leaderboard eligibility. Save states and rewind aren't offered. Cheats are silently not applied, and enabling one taints the session so you know a subsequent unlock wouldn't count.

The hardcore toggle is per-launch — pick the mode when starting the game. Your choice is tied to the save channel you're using, so mode and save stay consistent.

A Play Mode Preference setting (Settings > RetroAchievements) controls what happens when launching a game that has achievements:

  • Ask: prompt on launch to choose between Casual and Hardcore.
  • Default to Casual: launch in casual without asking.
  • Default to Hardcore: launch straight into hardcore, so quick launches from Home or the library skip the picker.

Hardcore never restricts battery saves — only save states. If you launch in hardcore and only a casual save exists, the game continues from it and shows "Continuing casual save in hardcore" so you know where the progress came from.

During gameplay

Achievement notifications appear when you unlock something. Progress syncs to the RA servers in the background.

If you're offline, achievements queue locally and sync when the connection returns.

Viewing progress

Game Details shows achievement count and completion percentage for RA-supported games.

Interactions

  • Save states — not offered in hardcore, including from a paired companion screen; see Save States.
  • Rewind — blocked in hardcore; see Rewind.
  • Cheats — blocked in hardcore; enabling one taints the session. See Cheats.
  • Save sync — a hardcore save can't be silently merged with a casual save. When there's a cross-mode conflict, Argosy shows a Keep Hardcore / Downgrade to Casual / Keep Local modal. See Save Sync.
