Rostrum 0.1.0
Intended release date: 2026-10-04

Rostrum routes application audio into separate headphone and stream mixes, with saved scenes, local microphone filters and OBS integration.

Changes

  • Stream readiness checks on the OBS page: grouped results, attention items first, corrective links and expandable evidence. Results distinguish Verified, Needs attention, Intentionally excluded/idle and Not verified. Checks observe controls, devices, channel routing and OBS captures; they do not alter settings, play tones or guarantee recording or audience audio.
  • Live Headphones Only and Stream Only changes remove excluded output sends.
  • Microphone delivery is preserved across PipeWire quantum changes. Legacy converters migrate without resetting saved settings; the first restart can briefly interrupt the converter processing path.
  • First x86_64 AppImage, including Qt/KDE/QML resources and Breeze icons. Audio remains local. Official builds offer optional crash reports and update checks chosen during setup: https://github.com/rostrum-audio/rostrum/blob/main/docs/privacy.md

Tested environment and requirements
Clean Ubuntu 26.04 x86_64, glibc 2.43, PipeWire 1.6.2 and WirePlumber 0.5.13, without host Qt/KDE/QML or development packages. Isolated automated checks use fake audio devices, private D-Bus and software-rendered X11. User-reported OBS recording and desktop checks cover their current setup only.
The artifact requires glibc 2.43 or newer, a working PipeWire/WirePlumber session, desktop D-Bus and a usable X11/Wayland graphics/font environment. Only the environment above has complete clean-runtime validation. No older-glibc, other-distribution or other-architecture compatibility is claimed. Microphone filters require PipeWire audio-convert support (1.4+); this candidate was tested on 1.6.2.

Launch
Verify the downloaded AppImage with its accompanying SHA256SUMS:
sha256sum -c SHA256SUMS
chmod +x Rostrum-0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage
./Rostrum-0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage
Without working FUSE, use:
./Rostrum-0.1.0-x86_64.AppImage --appimage-extract-and-run
Fully quit an existing Rostrum instance through Quit first; closing the window can leave it running. Builds share settings and a second launch can activate the old instance. Changing XDG paths alone does not isolate audio.

Validation and limitations
Official tests and clean packaged-runtime validation check intended signal delivery, excluded output silence, live destination changes, microphone quantum transitions, host DSP loading and local updater checksum rejection/replacement. Interactive Create Mix and runnable replacement followed by Restart Now passed in disposable isolated sessions, using a synthetic update-feed version; no real public-version upgrade is claimed.
Readiness cannot verify recording tracks or audience sound; unsupported, incomplete or stale OBS observations remain Not verified. Broader desktop/GPU/hardware compatibility, screen-reader behavior, subjective filter quality and unlimited uptime remain unverified. Short settled captures do not guarantee zero transient leakage at every sample.
SHA256SUMS shipped with this release identifies the final rebuilt artifact. Earlier local and nonpublishing hosted artifact checksums do not identify the final-tag build.
