Keyboard reference

⌘ on macOS, Ctrl everywhere else. Written as ⌘ throughout.

Shortcuts are ignored while you're typing in a field, so the rename box keeps its own editing keys — including its own ⌘Z.

Transport

Space start the song, or stop it if it's rolling
Esc stop all clips, keep the song rolling

Moving and firing

↑ ↓ ← → move the active cell — silent
⌘ + any arrow move and fire what you land on
⌘⏎ fire the active cell without moving

With nothing active yet, the first arrow press places the cell on the first visible scene rather than moving it.

Arrows walk what's on screen. A folded group's tracks and a folded song's scenes are skipped, so ⌘↓ can't descend into scenes you can't see and fire them. Group columns are skipped too — their slots hold no clip to select or edit.

← from the first track column lands on the scene; → from the scene goes back to the first track.

Selecting

⌘A select every scene in the set

⌘A unfolds any folded songs first, so the selection and what's on screen agree — selecting rows hidden behind a folded header would arm a bulk write against scenes you can't see.

Editing

⌘Z undo the last write — one level, no redo

Mouse

plain modified
clip cell select · drag to move it ⇧ extend a block · ⌘ fire
scene cells select the row and its clips ⇧ extend over scenes · ⌘ fire the scene
scene number drag to move that scene
▶ in the Master column fires the scene — no modifier needed
▶ in a group's slot fires the group — no modifier needed
song header fold or unfold that song drag to reorder
song title select every scene of that song
group header show the group's devices ⌘ stop the whole group
a group's ⊙ chevron fold or unfold the group ⌘ stop the whole group
track name show that track's devices ⌘ stop that track
a scene's role, in the Master column open the role menu
swatch writes immediately
volume, pan or a send drag to change — grabs, never jumps ⌘ fine · double-click resets
a device's ▾ triangle, in the chain fold it open or shut — open is what shows its controls
a device's on button, in the chain switch the device on or off in Live
a knob or value box on a device drag to change — grabs, never jumps ⌘ fine · double-click resets

⌥ does nothing. It used to add to a selection, which is what ⇧ already does.

Mixer controls

Click a volume, pan or send field to focus it, then:

↑ → / ↓ ← one step up or down
⌘ + any arrow a tenth of a step
Page Up / Page Down ten steps
Home / End the bottom or the top of the range

A focused control keeps these to itself, so the arrows move it rather than the active cell. Click anywhere in the grid to hand them back.

The rule behind all of it

Unmodified input never makes a sound. Everything plain is organizing — selecting, folding, moving. Add ⌘ and Live responds.

The exceptions are the two ▶ buttons — the Master column's and a group slot's, whose only job is firing — and the two ⌘ shortcuts that aren't grid gestures at all: ⌘Z and ⌘A, which mean what they mean everywhere else on the machine.

The mixer is outside the rule rather than an exception to it. Nothing down there is a grid gesture, and its ⌘ is Live's own: hold it while dragging a control for fine adjustment, exactly as you would in Live itself.
