Push
Hand-written, so it can fall behind. The device's face and the app's status lines change with the build; this page only changes when someone remembers. Where Live disagrees with what is written here, Live is right.
One encoder that walks your running order by name. No laptop screen, no browser tab, no scrolling Live's Session View with a trackpad you can't see.
Select the track holding Session Bridge on your Push, open its device controls, and the first encoder is labelled Song. Turn it and the display names the songs in order — the same running order the app shows, read from the same set.
It selects. It does not fire. Each position is a song, and landing on one selects that song's first scene in Live, exactly as if you had clicked the scene in the grid. Nothing launches, nothing stops, nothing changes what's playing.
That's deliberate. Scrubbing the encoder mid-song is safe — you can find the next song while the current one is still running, then launch it from Push's own scene buttons when you're ready.
Songs come from your scene names, in the order they appear in the set — the same list the app's running order works from. A song that appears in two separate runs shows up at its first run.
- Names are shortened to fit. Push's display has room for about a dozen characters, so long titles are cut. The app doesn't ask you to shorten anything — it just sends what fits.
-
Names read the way you typed them, spaces included. If a two-word song shows up as
Two?Words, the device is an older build that sent a character Push can't draw — reinstall it, see Installing. -
Empty positions read
-. The encoder always has the same number of detents whatever the set holds, so past the end of your running order you'll turn through dashes. Nothing happens there. - 128 songs. Past that, the rest of the set isn't on the encoder. The device logs it in the Max window if you ever hit it.
The list is rebuilt whenever the app reads your set — on load, and after anything that changes the scenes. Renaming a song in the app and watching the encoder follow is the normal case.
If the names on Push go stale, restart Push. It holds on to the labels it was given, and the device now nudges it after every update, but the nudge isn't guaranteed to land. Restarting Push always re-reads them.
- Session Bridge has to be on a track Push can see, and selected on Push, like any other device.
-
The device must have finished loading. Its Status reads
Connected to Liveonce it's up — see Troubleshooting. -
The bank is called
Songsand holds one encoder. If Push shows a second, empty bank, the device is an old build — reinstall it, see Installing.
