Getting Started

Follow the instructions below to set up VidCraft on your local environment.

Prerequisites

• Node.js (version 18 or later)
• npm (Node Package Manager)
• PostgreSQL database (NeonDB recommended)
• Clerk account for authentication

Installation

1. Clone the repository:

   git clone https://github.com/yourusername/vidcraft.git
   cd vidcraft

2. Install dependencies:

   npm install

3. Create an environment file named .env.local in the root directory:

   # Database
   DATABASE_URL="postgresql_connection_string"
   
   # Clerk Authentication
   NEXT_PUBLIC_CLERK_PUBLISHABLE_KEY=clerk_publishable_key
   CLERK_SECRET_KEY=clerk_secret_key
   
   # Optional: Media processing
   CLOUDINARY_URL=cloudinary_url
   

4. Set up the database:

   npx prisma generate
   npx prisma db push

5. Start the development server:

   npm run dev

Your application will now be running at http://localhost:3000.

Usage

Dashboard

Access your main dashboard at /home to view projects, analytics, and video performance data.

Video Upload

Navigate to /video-upload to:

• Upload supported video formats (MP4, MOV, AVI, WebM)
• Apply AI compression and optimization
• Generate thumbnails and subtitles

Open /social-share to:
