RITVIO Android 1.2.0 — public preview

Faster track transitions and seeking on Android. Windows remains on 0.7.2 in the Windows release; previous Android releases remain available for rollback.

What's new

  • Native preloading prepares up to the next five seconds of the following track after playback settles, yielding to the current track's loading.
  • Up to 60 seconds of already-played audio can stay in RAM to make backward seeks quicker. There is no audio file cache or offline download.
  • Startup/rebuffer targets are reduced to 500/1000 ms. These are buffer settings, not promises about click-to-sound latency.
  • Repeated stream lookups share a request, metadata is cached with expiry, and selected tracks have a separate bounded lane from speculative requests. Cancelled skips no longer temporarily mark the previous track as failed; genuine rate-limit backoff is preserved.
  • Native playback events update the visible controls immediately instead of waiting only for the position poll.
  • Settings → Copy playback diagnostics copies a local timing report without track titles, identifiers or stream URLs. Nothing is uploaded automatically.

Install or update

Download RITVIO-Android-1.2.0.apk. Android 7.0+ / API 24+, ARM64 and x86_64, versionCode 18. Install over your existing official app without uninstalling to preserve local data. The signing certificate is unchanged. No development tools, account or API key are required.

Source and verification

  • This is the exact APK tested by the maintainer, who reported a clear improvement in playback speed on the phone. No instrumented-device benchmark or percentage speedup is claimed.
  • Clean-checkout CI passed 200 core, 44 browser and 60 native JVM tests. All 20 native libraries passed the 16 KB ELF/ZIP checks. The APK signature and upgrade certificate were verified.

  • Merged source commit: ab57570df622d2f71f6f7417373a75be3e5ed5cb. Its tree exactly matches the successful build commit 8479b8bed3f21baaf67d057e721cc1c875fdb2d9.

  • RITVIO-Android-1.2.0-source.zip contains corresponding RITVIO source, build scripts, tests, lockfile and notices. RITVIO-resolver-sources.zip contains the 12 exact pinned upstream Python source distributions, checked against recorded hashes. See SHA256SUMS and RELEASE-MANIFEST.json.

Known limits

Unprepared tracks and seeks outside the available audio buffer still require the network. Preloading may fetch a short fragment of a next track that is subsequently skipped. External catalogue, stream, artwork and lyrics services may break or be rate-limited.

This remains a public preview. Comprehensive device/accessibility, Bluetooth, audio-focus and prolonged background coverage is incomplete; browser/JVM tests cannot certify these behaviours. There is no automatic updater, hosted account, cross-device library sync or offline audio download.

Provider sources and attribution remain in Settings. Software licensing does not grant rights to music, lyrics or artwork; see PRIVACY.md and THIRD_PARTY_NOTICES.md in the source. Automatic lyrics use LRCLIB, for which a general content licence has not been verified.
