Save states, a CRT filter, map pins and fan translation support.

New

  • Save states from the bottom screen: a quick save/load pair, plus four slots that each show a screenshot of the moment you saved and when you saved it.
  • Autosave option: saves on exit and picks up where you left off on the next launch.
  • CRT filter for the game screen (scanlines and a subtle RGB mask), with a separate option for the bottom screen.
  • Map pins: hold anywhere on the overworld map to drop a marker, hold it again to remove it. The light and dark world keep their own sets, and they survive a restart.
  • MSU-1 music toggle in the settings list. It reads NO PACK until a music pack is installed.
  • Fan translations: pick a translated ROM on first run and you'll be asked for the original US ROM afterwards. Spanish, Polish, Dutch, Swedish and Redux are recognised by checksum; other US-based hacks work too.

Fixed

  • Some caves put the map marker in the Lost Woods instead of at the doorway you came in through. The same fix covers Zora's Domain, the Master Sword glade and under the bridge.
  • Assigning an item to X from the bottom screen could silently do nothing if the item switch feature had been turned off.
  • The app could close on startup with nothing to go on. Startup failures now show on screen and are written to files/crash.txt so they can be reported.

Changed

  • The game's own HUD strip on the top screen is hidden by default. The bottom screen already shows hearts, magic and the counters.
  • The X item ring is on by default, which also turns on item switching with L and R.

Install

Download zelda3-dualscreen.apk and install it. You need zelda3_assets.dat in Android/data/com.dishii.zelda3/files, or just pick your ROM when the app asks on first run.

Updating from an earlier version keeps your settings and saves. The new defaults above only apply to fresh installs, apart from the top-screen HUD.
