12. Manually database create process without dbca

Sayan Bhattacharya edited this page Aug 21, 2026 · 1 revision

We can create database by manually. following steps are-

1st we login through oracle user and open a terminal

2nd we have to put the entry in the oratab file.

' vi /etc/oratab ' insert new database name like TATA. in oratab file you have to give the database name and home location.

3rd we have to create a pfile.

4th we have to create a password file

5th we have to goto SQL promt by setting the environment and have to put the database in nomount state.

6th we have to execute the script. tht creates datafiles, logfiles, controlfiles.

7th we have to run two more scripts which are inbuild in oracle, to create data dictionary and PLSQL scripts inside the database.

those scripts are catlog.sql == to create data dictionary and PLSQL scripts inside the database.

catproc.sql == all programings scripts for PLSQL are stored.

here 2 database are there. just copy this line [ irctc:/u01/app/oracle/product/19.0.0/dbhome_1:N ] for another new database irctc change to tata.

then set envo.

image

then goto home location pfile location and create pfile by coping another and edit

image

here shadb is replaced with tata by [ :%s/shadb/tata ]

image image

before save the pfile ,open a new terminal

we have to create the audit path [ mkdir '/u01/app/oracle/admin/tata/adump' ]

image

the create controlfile location path and save the pfile

image image

we have to create passwordfile == command is == [ orapwd file=orapwtata password=Welcome#12 entries=3 force=y ]

password is like Welcome#12 because if we put oracle then not work and entries means how many sysusers can login like 3

image

now sqlplus as sysdba and startup nomount state

image

now create a scripts where we have to change the database name

image image

now in SQL promt run the new_createdb.sql script to create the database.create logfiles, datafiles, controlfiles

image

check files are created or not

image

now we have to write the scripts [ 1. catalog.sql and 2.catproc.sql ]

what is the location of this sqls , from where the scripts are come.

while we are installing the oracle application , oracle has given lot of sqls ,under which we have this two sql also

location of this sqls in oracle home

@?/rdbms/admin/catalog.sql [? stands for oracle home ] and it will take time , it is create our data dictionary.

image image

now run another script and wait.

image image

after complete the script, shutdown immediate and restart the database , startup mount

then enable archived log
