Offline DAoC 0.36c, the new client

Offline DAoC with two game clients: the original DAoC client and a new client built in the Godot 4 engine. Both play the same game: the same server, account, characters, bots and world. Play a character with one client today and with the other tomorrow.

The new client's zones, buildings, characters, monsters, spell effects, sounds, music and interface are converted from the original client's own files, with textures upscaled 4x. It has the 1.65-era interface (quickbars, map and war map, quest journal, group and raid windows, pet window, trainer, merchants, the Realm Exchange), WoW-style movement, rebindable keys and graphics presets.

It works with 0.36b (with the Sluaghbinder) and with 0.36 (classic classes only; then the new client offers the classic classes only, like the original client).

How to install

  1. Download Download-OfflineDAoC-v0.36c.zip below (under Assets) into a new, empty folder with a short path, for example C:\Games\OfflineDAoC.
  2. Right-click the zip → Extract All…, and open the extracted folder.
  3. New install: double-click DOWNLOAD-AND-PLAY-v0.36c.cmd and press 1 for 0.36b (with the Sluaghbinder) or 2 for 0.36 (classic classes only). It downloads that complete game (about 5 GB) and then the new client (about 30 GB in 19 checked parts) into one new folder. Each part is unpacked and deleted before the next, so the install needs about 60 GB of free space while it runs. If it stops, run it again (press the same number) and it continues.
Already have 0.36b or 0.36: double-click ADD-NEW-CLIENT-TO-0.36-OR-0.36b.cmd instead and choose your game folder. Your saves are not changed.
  4. In the game folder, double-click START OFFLINE DAOC - NEW CLIENT.cmd → START SERVER → wait for RUNNING → ENTER REALM. The launcher shows VERSION 0.36c. START OFFLINE DAOC.cmd still plays with the original client (it needs the Windows feature .NET Framework 3.5; the new client doesn't).

Use one launcher at a time: both start and stop the same server.
You need a 64-bit Windows 10 or 11 PC with an AVX2 CPU, a graphics card that supports Vulkan or DirectX 12 with current drivers, and 16 GB RAM (recommended). The finished install takes about 45 GB.

Coming from an older version? Run IMPORT PROGRESS FROM OLD OFFLINE DAOC.cmd in the game folder once; both clients then have your progress. Transfer guide.

The new client is new: if something looks or behaves differently from the original client, please report it in Bug reports, with a screenshot if you can. Guide: NEW-CLIENT.md. Its source code is in source/new-client.

What's new in 0.36

  • A new game client (0.36c) for the same game, built in Godot 4, beside the original client. Both play the same account, characters and bots.
  • Raids: bot raids finished Darkness Falls (Legion defeated), Summoner's Hall and Tuscaran Glacier, and killed Prince Ba'alorien, Soul Reckoner and Hurionthex for the first time. The Darkness Falls bosses that stood out of reach on daises now stand in front of them.
  • Keeps, relics and battlegrounds: armies gather longer, march together and start the siege when the army arrives; rams and trebuchets attack doors in the right order; battleground armies attack the central keep together. You can take an enemy relic with your companion bots: they count on the relic pad, and eight are needed now.
  • Bots find their way: a map of checked paths through every outdoor zone lets bots reach hunting spots the long way around; town teleporters work more reliably.
  • Quests: classic quests give their item rewards (940 reward items added) and period experience, every classic quest can be finished from start to finish, and quest kill targets come back within five minutes.
  • Smoother long sessions: a slow memory leak that made long sessions stutter is fixed.
  • Classes: Necromancer and Bonedancer pets look as they did in 1.65; the Sluaghbinder has realm abilities, including its own Crippling Plague (0.36b).
  • Setup: one small downloader zip per edition, a clean default world (every keep, relic and battleground keep with its original owner), and the progress transfer tool now imports 0.35 and 0.35b saves too.
