Releases: slackapi/slack-skills-plugin

v1.5.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 19 Oct 18:32
cba372b

Minor Changes

  • bae34e1: Add a one-line setup prompt for coding agents. Paste it into Claude Code, Cursor, Codex, or another coding agent, and the agent installs the Slack plugin and creates a starter Slack agent app in the same session:

    Fetch and follow the instructions at https://docs.slack.dev/agent-setup/prompt.md

    The prompt is served from docs.slack.dev, so it can be shared anywhere a developer starts building, and its install commands stay in step with this plugin's README.

  • 42ad160: Add the deploy-slack-app skill: deploy a Socket Mode Bolt app to Railway or Heroku as a separate, always-on Slack app with its own app ID, using the Slack CLI deploy hook. The local development app is unchanged. Supports macOS and Linux, with Windows support planned.

Patch Changes

  • 2118120: Support basic developer sandboxes, now that every Developer Program account can create one with no paid plan or payment method. create-slack-app says so when recommending a sandbox, explains a basic sandbox's limits and how to upgrade it, and checks that the logged-in email matches the developer's account before sending them to sign up.
  • 96f6ea2: Add design references to the block-kit skill for modals and forms, App Home, data display (fields, tables, and charts), agent progress (plans and task cards), and human-in-the-loop approvals. Extend the design principles to cover data_table, data_visualization, container, alert, and inline tag, date, and citation elements. Fix the Notification Alert pattern, which used the modal-only alert block in a message.
    Align labels in the guidance and patterns with Slack's UI conventions (Title Case action buttons, sentence case elsewhere, no emoji in buttons, labels, or headers), and limit primary styling to one button per message or view.
  • faf8b3a: Fix create-slack-app never handing off to the block-kit skill, so an agent building a message, modal, or App Home layout now uses it instead of writing Block Kit JSON from memory. create-slack-app and block-kit also check their optional argument against the allowed values before using it, and ask the developer when it doesn't match.
  • faf8b3a: Clarify in the block-kit skill that blocks.validate checks block and element shape only. It does not enforce which surface a block is allowed on or how many of a block a message can hold, so the skill now checks those against the design principles' surface and limits table instead of treating a passing validation as proof.
  • f063977: Fix create-slack-app offering Pydantic AI when you create a JavaScript agent app. Pydantic AI only works with Python, so the skill now asks for your language first and only lists the AI providers that work with it.

Patch Changes

  • f6f4b34: Add a Card Preview pattern to the block-kit skill's common patterns reference.
  • f6f4b34: Add a design-principles.md reference to the block-kit skill, covering layout appropriateness (which block fits the content, emphasis, reading order, accessibility) as distinct from blocks.validate validity.
  • f6f4b34: Add Rich Text Section and Row Actions with Overflow Menu patterns to the block-kit skill's common patterns reference.

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Sep 19:01
4399a32

Minor Changes

  • f2a4f53: Add the slack Codex marketplace, giving developers a production install path for the Slack plugin in Codex:

    codex plugin marketplace add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin
    codex plugin add slack@slack

    Until now the only marketplace this repo published was named slack-dev, so installing the plugin meant adding a marketplace labelled "dev" and running codex plugin add slack@slack-dev.

    If you installed under the old name, remove it before re-adding: Codex treats the two marketplaces as unrelated and will leave both installed and enabled.

    codex plugin remove slack@slack-dev
    codex plugin marketplace remove slack-dev
  • 8044341: Support developer sandboxes, free, and paid teams as install targets, instead of treating a developer sandbox as the only option. create-slack-app Step 3 now presents a sandbox (recommended), a Free Team (second choice), or an existing production workspace (last resort, usually gated by admin app approval), and test-slack-app accepts a Free Team as a safe place to test. Also runs sandbox list and sandbox create non-interactively with --team, --name, and --password.

Patch Changes

  • 1579a07: Improve the docs.slack.dev page with clearer formatting. Document the slack-docs skill, which finds and reads official Slack dev docs as clean markdown to answer questions about the Slack platform.

  • b1c9af0: Ensure "run my Slack app locally" prompts route to the slack-cli skill rather than create-slack-app. The create-slack-app description previously advertised "creating + running a project from a Bolt template locally", overlapping with slack-cli's territory; dropping "+ running" disambiguates the two.

  • f1deaff: Document installing the skills with npx skills, which reaches coding agents beyond the three with a plugin surface:

    # Install the skills for a coding agent, named by its own identifier
    npx skills add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin -y -a <agent>

    # For example, Gemini CLI or OpenCode
    npx skills add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin -y -a gemini-cli
    npx skills add slackapi/slack-skills-plugin -y -a opencode

    This path already worked and needed no changes here, it was just undocumented. It carries the skills only: no commands, and no MCP server.

v1.3.0

@github-actions github-actions released this 24 Aug 17:10
9f982fb

Minor Changes

  • c961f03: Add the test-slack-app skill: guide developers through running an app in a developer sandbox and verifying it responds in Slack.

Patch Changes

  • 77a1079: Clarify Claude and Cursor plugin manifest descriptions so both user and developer audiences are discoverable. The Codex manifest describes skills only and does not claim workspace interaction, since the MCP server is not wired into the Codex surface.
  • c17458c: Sharpen the slack-messaging and slack-search skill guidance: clearer trigger descriptions, accurate standard-markdown formatting rules (tables, headers, code blocks), more search modifiers and parameters, and scope notes linking to related skills.
  • 1251c73: Standardize every skill description to lead with its triggering conditions in consistent, impersonal phrasing, so the right skill loads more reliably for a given task. Documents the description convention in the maintainers guide and adds unit checks (length cap, trigger cue, impersonal voice) to keep future skills aligned.

v1.2.0

Choose a tag to compare

@github-actions github-actions released this 30 Jul 15:47
3c355c9

Minor Changes

  • 937e74b: Add a Codex plugin surface. A new .codex-plugin/plugin.json manifest exposes the Slack skills to Codex, and a repo-scoped .agents/plugins/marketplace.json lets you install the plugin into Codex from a local checkout. The hosted MCP server is not yet wired into the Codex surface; skills only for now.

  • 5a6f612: Route general Slack documentation questions to the slack-docs skill. The slack-cli skill's docs search is now scoped to terminal-based lookups via slack docs search, removing the overlap with slack-docs.

  • a3295d4: Teach the block-kit skill to preview blocks with the new slack blocks preview CLI command, which opens the Block Kit Builder with the blocks pre-loaded. The skill discovers the command's usage via --help rather than hard-coding flags, and falls back to the manual Block Kit Builder link when the CLI isn't installed. Also removes the redundant validation Escape Hatch, whose visual-debugging fallback is now covered by the richer preview step.

Patch Changes

  • c4caf79: Add rumdl Markdown linting to make lint/make format and clean up formatting across the skill and command docs.
  • f716403: Align the install-surface metadata across the Claude Code and Cursor plugin manifests. Refresh the .claude-plugin/plugin.json description, add a repository field to both manifests, point homepage at the docs.slack.dev developer hub, and add the JSON Schema reference to the Claude Code manifest for editor validation.
  • 3906698: Automate release announcements to the internal maintainers' Slack channel from the release workflow.
  • 7bd09ea: Drop the --experiment=sandboxes flag from slack sandbox invocations in the create-slack-app skill. The experiment has been removed from slack-cli, so the flag now surfaces an unknown-experiment warning that can confuse users and agents.
  • 9ea300a: Fix the homepage field in .claude-plugin/plugin.json to point to this repository instead of slackapi/slack-mcp-cursor-plugin, which does not exist and returned a 404.
  • 9635a2f: Publish GitHub Releases from the release workflow so each tag has release notes.
  • 46f5c53: Update the homepage field in .claude-plugin/plugin.json and repo links in docs to point to slackapi/slack-skills-plugin, the repository's new name.
