Pocket Sense v2.2.0
🔄 Sync between your devices
- Pair your phone with your computer, or two people's phones, and they keep the same data, directly over your Wi-Fi. There's no server, no account and no internet involved.
- Turn it on in Settings → Sync and give the device a name. Then open Pair a device on both devices, tap the other one, and check that both screens show the same 6-digit code.
- If both devices already have data, you can combine the two or replace this device's data with the other's.
- Devices sync when the app opens or comes back, when a paired device appears on the network, and a couple of seconds after each change. The sync button in the top bar syncs right away.
- If two devices change the same entry while apart, the later change wins. Two categories with the same name merge into one.
- Sync runs while the app is open: two phones sync when both have Pocket Sense open.
🔐 Private by design
- Everything synced is encrypted and authenticated with a key only your two devices share. A device you haven't paired gets nothing.
- Pocket Sense talks only to devices on your local network, and only listens while sync is on. It's off until you turn it on.
- Android now asks for network access. Android requires it for any network use, even on your own Wi-Fi. Pocket Sense still never connects to the internet on Android.
Also
- Erasing all data now also unpairs the device.
- Importing a backup on a synced device replaces the data on your other devices too, at their next sync.
- Once a device is paired, the starter categories no longer rename themselves when you change the language.
⚠️ Before updating
This version upgrades the database, and older versions can't open it afterwards. Export a backup first if you might want to go back.
Linux firewall: if your firewall blocks incoming connections (ufw on some distros, firewalld on Fedora), allow port 47823 or devices won't find each other:
sudo ufw allow 47823
# or, on Fedora:
sudo firewall-cmd --permanent --add-port=47823/tcp --add-port=47823/udp && sudo firewall-cmd --reloadDownload
