Sidekick v0.6.6

Choose a tag to compare

@yashptel yashptel released this 28 Aug 06:54

Summary

Sidekick 0.6.6 fixes a blank window on startup that affected 0.6.4 and 0.6.5. If you are on either of those versions, please update.

Fixes

  • Sidekick opens properly again — 0.6.4 and 0.6.5 could start with an empty black window and no controls, leaving the app unusable. Sidekick now opens to its normal interface.

macOS Installation (Signed + Notarized)

Download the Apple Silicon .zip or .dmg file, drag Sidekick.app into Applications, then launch it normally. macOS 13 Ventura or newer on Apple Silicon (M1 or newer) is required. Intel Macs are not supported.

On first launch, macOS should recognize the app as signed and notarized. You should only need to approve the usual Microphone and Screen Recording permission prompts inside System Settings.

⚠️ Windows Installation (Unsigned x64 Build)

When running the installer on Windows, you might see a "Windows protected your PC" warning from Microsoft Defender SmartScreen saying it prevented an unrecognized app from starting.

Since this is an unsigned build, this is expected. You can safely ignore it by clicking More info and then Run anyway.

The public artifact release workflow currently publishes x64 installer and portable artifacts only.

Sidekick v0.6.5

@yashptel yashptel released this 27 Aug 06:22

Summary

Sidekick 0.6.5 is a maintenance release. It contains no user-visible changes from 0.6.4 — everything works the same, and you can safely skip this update if you are already running 0.6.4.

Sidekick v0.6.4

Choose a tag to compare

@yashptel yashptel released this 27 Aug 05:40

Summary

Sidekick 0.6.4 makes sign-in more reliable, standardizes the app on dark mode, and moves macOS releases to Apple Silicon only.

Improvements

  • Dark mode everywhere — Sidekick now consistently uses its dark appearance instead of following the system theme.
  • Apple Silicon macOS releases — New macOS downloads are built for M1 or newer Macs, making the supported platform clear and keeping releases focused on current hardware.

Fixes

  • Sign-in no longer gets stuck waiting — Desktop sign-in now handles device names with punctuation and non-ASCII characters safely and shows callback errors instead of leaving the onboarding screen waiting indefinitely.

Sidekick v0.6.3

Choose a tag to compare

@yashptel yashptel released this 27 Jun 08:36

Summary

A focused overlay behavior fix: Sidekick now respects the hidden overlay state while answers are generated in the background.

Fixes

  • Hidden overlay stays hidden — When you collapse the overlay during a meeting, automatic live assist responses and submit shortcuts no longer reopen it on their own.

Download the correct .zip or .dmg file for your device (Apple Silicon or Intel), drag Sidekick.app into Applications, then launch it normally.

@yashptel yashptel released this 26 Jun 19:08

Summary

A focused overlay stability fix: Sidekick no longer flickers while you type, prompt, or interact with the hidden translucent overlay.

Fixes

  • Stable hidden overlay — The translucent overlay now stays steady during typing, prompting, and other interactions while Sidekick is hidden from screen capture.

Download the correct .zip or .dmg file for your device (Apple Silicon or Intel), drag Sidekick.app into Applications, then launch it normally.

@yashptel yashptel released this 26 Jun 10:06

Summary

A couple of fixes: your overlay opacity now sticks across restarts, and the What's New panel shows a clean summary.

Fixes

  • Overlay opacity stays put — The opacity level you set now persists across restarts instead of resetting.
  • Tidier What's New — The release notes shown in Settings now display a clean summary without setup boilerplate.

Sidekick v0.6.0

@yashptel yashptel released this 26 Jun 06:06

Summary

Scroll the overlay straight from the keyboard, enjoy a refreshed translucent overlay you can fine-tune, and get answers that draw on more of your conversation.

What's New

  • Scroll the overlay from the keyboard — New Cmd/Ctrl + Alt + Up / Down shortcuts scroll the overlay and chat a half-page at a time, no mouse needed. Tap quickly in the same direction to cover more ground, faster. You can rebind them anytime under Keybindings.

Improvements

  • Refreshed translucent overlay — The overlay now has a frosted-glass look: the screen behind subtly shows through while your text and answers stay crisp and fully readable.
  • Precise opacity control — The overlay opacity slider now adjusts in fine 1% steps, and every surface — panels, chat bubbles, and code blocks — updates smoothly as you drag it.
  • More context-aware answers — Sidekick now takes more of the surrounding conversation into account when responding, and you can tune how much from settings.

macOS Installation (Signed + Notarized)

Download the correct .zip or .dmg file for your device (Apple Silicon or Intel), drag Sidekick.app into Applications, then launch it normally.

Sidekick v0.5.0

@yashptel yashptel released this 17 Jun 07:00

What's new

Smarter Interview Assist

Interview Assist now recognizes when your interviewer has actually finished asking — not just when they pause to breathe. A multi-sentence question is treated as one question, so you get a single, complete answer instead of fragments.

  • No more premature answers. A natural pause in the middle of a question no longer cuts it off — Sidekick waits for the interviewer to finish before responding.
  • Short questions get answered. Brief follow-ups like “Why?” now get a response — automatically, and on demand with Cmd/Ctrl + J.
  • Cleaner live captions. The interviewer’s question now builds up in place as they speak, instead of jumping between sentences.

When you use on-device transcription, all of this runs locally on your machine.

Sidekick v0.4.2

Choose a tag to compare

@yashptel yashptel released this 14 Jun 17:56

Summary

More reliable custom providers: when a custom provider or gateway drops a reply, Sidekick now tells you what happened instead of leaving a blank, and some OpenAI-compatible gateways produce fewer spurious errors.

Improvements

  • Clear message when a custom provider drops a reply — If a custom provider (or a proxy in front of it) loses the conversation mid-session and can't continue, Sidekick now shows a short, actionable message and points you to reset with ⌘R — instead of silently returning an empty response.
  • Smoother streaming with some gateways — Certain OpenAI-compatible gateways add extra non-standard data to the response stream. Sidekick now ignores that gracefully, so replies stream through cleanly instead of tripping over it.

Summary

  • App opens reliably again — Resolved a startup issue that could prevent Sidekick from launching after updating to v0.4.0. All v0.4.0 features (Meeting History, custom provider setup and health, and the Modes improvements) are included and unchanged.
