First Dive

Your first dive

Log your first dive in about five minutes. This page walks you through setting up your profile and recording a dive from scratch.

Create your diver profile

When you open Submersion for the first time, you land on the welcome screen.

Note

Where to find it: Submersion shows this screen automatically on first launch. It does not appear again once your profile exists.

  1. Enter your name in the Your Name field.
  2. Tap Get Started.

That is the only field required at this step. Your profile is created and Submersion takes you directly to your Dives list.

Tip

You can add emergency contact details, medical notes, and insurance information later under your diver profile. See Diver Profile for the full set of fields.

Log your first dive

From the Dives list, tap the Log Dive button (the floating button with a + icon at the bottom of the screen). A sheet appears with two options:

  • Log Dive Manually — opens the dive form so you can type in the details.
  • Import from Computer — connects to a dive computer via Bluetooth.

Tap Log Dive Manually to open the dive form.

Fill in the essentials

The form opens with the The Dive section expanded, which contains everything you need for a basic record.

At the top of the section, tap any of the three hero fields to enter a value:

Field What to enter
Max Depth Deepest point of the dive, in your preferred unit (m or ft)
Bottom Time Dive duration in minutes
Avg Depth Average depth — optional but useful for gas calculations

Below the hero fields, fill in:

  • Entry — date and time you entered the water. Tap to open the date/time picker.
  • Exit — time you surfaced. Optional; Submersion can calculate bottom time from entry and exit when both are set.
  • Site — tap Add site to choose an existing site from your list or create a new one on the spot.

Tip

You do not need to fill every field before saving. A dive with just a date, max depth, and bottom time is a valid record. You can come back and fill in the rest later.

Save the dive

When you are done entering the essentials, tap Save in the app bar. The dive appears in your Dives list.

What to do next

Now that you have your first dive logged, explore what Submersion can do:

  • Logging Dives — the full set of fields: gas, conditions, buddies, marine life, and more.
  • Dive Sites — manage your site library, including GPS coordinates and depth information.
  • Equipment — build a gear inventory and attach equipment sets to dives.
  • Dive Computer — import dives and profile data directly from a Bluetooth-connected computer.
