Map Depot 1.4

Map Depot downloads map data from inside ATAK — elevation, streaming base maps,
offline public lands, ranger district maps, and now the maps a going fire is
actually working from.

Pick the build matching your ATAK-CIV version, sideload it, then load it in
ATAK's Plugins manager. A plugin built for one ATAK release will not load on
another.

New since 0.6

Incident maps. Two public archives the incident community publishes to,
browsed by geographic area and fire:

• Incident Maps (NIFC) — the operational products a fire's GIS shop posts:
  ops, division, air operations, transport, briefing and IR.
• Drone IR Maps (UASWFC) — infrared flown by uncrewed aircraft.

Both are read live, because what they hold changes through the day. No account
and no configuration.

Names you can read on a phone. The archives name files for a desktop file
browser. Map Depot renames them, keyed to the operational period the map is for
rather than the moment it came off the plotter, and shows the original
underneath so a map named over the radio can still be found.

Pin the fire you are working. Any folder pins to the top of the list in
cyan, one tap away instead of four. Pins survive a restart and an update.

Work the map without leaving the plugin. Installed maps carry Show and Hide
beside Remove, an Outlines toggle shows what covers the ground in front of you,
and a filter cycles All → Installed → Available so the list doubles as an
inventory of the device.

A user manual you can open. 40 illustrated pages, in ATAK under
Settings → Tool Preferences → Map Depot → Plugin Documentation. It now
updates with the plugin instead of staying at whatever version you first opened.

Also fixed

• The app icon is visible in Android's file browser and app list.
• Removing a map checks the file is really inside the map folder before deleting.
• Downloads resume rather than restart, and report a reachable error when the
  network is the problem.

Ports

Outbound TCP 443 (HTTPS) only. No listening ports, no inbound connections, no
TAK server involvement.

Map Depot 0.6

Fixes reported by users on 0.5. If you have 0.5, update — whole-forest recreation maps could not download at all in it.

Fixed

• Whole-forest recreation maps now download. Every one of the 173 whole-forest maps was unreachable in 0.5: the plugin asked the Forest Service for the wrong map series, and that server answers with silence rather than an error. Ranger district maps were unaffected.
• A failed download now says something useful. It used to show a Java class name, and the retry it promised never actually ran.
• "Grand Mesa, Uncompahgre and Gunnison National Forests" is available. It was being dropped from the catalog on every load because of the commas in its name.
• The landing page scrolls. On smaller screens the fourth button was cut off with no way to reach it.

ATAK 5.6

Offline Public Lands does not work on ATAK 5.6 and cannot — vector tile package support arrived in ATAK 5.7. Rather than let you spend a gigabyte on a map ATAK will not display, those rows now say "needs ATAK 5.7 or newer" and are disabled.

Elevation, streaming base maps and ranger district maps all work normally on 5.6.

Map Depot 0.5

Map Depot downloads map data from inside ATAK. No browser, no Downloads folder, no Import Manager — pick what you want in the plugin and it installs itself where ATAK already looks.

Four kinds of data

• Elevation (DTED2) — terrain by state or province, for viewsheds and elevation readouts. Every cell is checked against a SHA-256 digest before install, because a truncated .dt2 reads as valid to ATAK and silently corrupts line of sight.
• Streaming base maps — satellite, street, topographic and nautical sources, plus transparent overlays that put roads and labels back on top of fresh imagery.
• Offline public lands — Forest Service vector basemaps, one per national forest or grassland, drawn with no network at all.
• Offline ranger district maps — the printed district maps as georeferenced GeoPDFs.

How it behaves

• Rows say whether something is absent, partly held, or installed — the list doubles as an inventory of the device.
• Downloads resume after a dropped connection instead of starting over, and can be cancelled without losing what already arrived.
• Removing says what it will actually free before it runs. Elevation comes in one-degree squares shared between neighboring states, so squares another region still needs are kept — and if removing a state would free nothing, it says so rather than doing nothing quietly.
• Tapping an installed offline map takes you to it on the map.
• A filter on every page narrows the list to what is installed.
