September 2026 - back to work on PhotoDemon!

[tannerhelland]

Hello friends. With the kids back in school this month, I once again have time available for PhotoDemon. Thank you for your patience this summer as I paused my work here to attend to family duties.

My big push right now is (finally) releasing comprehensive documentation for PhotoDemon. With the help of an amazing contributor, writing and editing the documentation is mostly done (in both English and German). My task this month is continuing to transcribe the text from a Word document to a searchable website, then integrating documentation access directly into PhotoDemon's various tool windows. I'm also integrating some parts of the documentation build process - like building the navigation tree and file layout - directly into PhotoDemon's code, to make it trivial to update and maintain the documentation as new features are added.

I always knew this project would require many months of (not very fun) work, and it has, but it's exciting to see it getting closer and closer to the finish line.

Launching and integrating the help documentation is the final big hurdle before a new stable release!

Thank you to everyone in the community who helped answer PhotoDemon questions in my absence. I am grateful for all of you.

This is fabulous news. PhotoDemon is an excellent application and good documentation will only make it better and more accessible. Looking forward to it.

hello ! Would it be possible for users to make a translation of this documentation for other languages too ? (French for example ? 😉) Le lun. 14 sept. 2026 à 18:59, opsimathic ***@***.***> a écrit :

Hi @mizka76 !

Yes, the goal is to have a simple, open-source documentation structure that can be easily translated to any language.

The documentation itself is just a folder tree of small text files (markdown format, specifically).

The reason I am writing code that generates the file layout and navigation tree is because this will make it easy to set up a "new" translation, with all files and navigation already assembled (using PhotoDemon's existing translation files).

Right now, I am primarily focused on sorting out English bugs. Once those are fixed, I need to make sure everything works okay with my existing German translation. After those two are complete and working well, I can start work on any other languages that have willing translators.

Thanks for the question!

Thanks for keeping up with this project!

I am (probably like many other people) anxiously waiting for new features and the upgrades of the new PD versions!

Thanks for your time and effort building such a wonderful tool for everyday use!
