Diversity Statement

TransitSync will aim to help transit planners evaluate Metro-REM transfers fairly. We will of course consider accessibility and equity when we will design the simulation and evaluating the results.

  • People who could be excluded or disadvantaged: Passengers with whether it is mobility issues, traveling with children or even some that are unfamiliar with a station may need more time to transfer. In addition, people already abroad a held train and passengers farther along its route can also give a disadvantage by repeated holds.

  • Design choices that address these concerns : We will test a range of transfer times and passenger volumes instead of assuming on typical passenger. Furthermore, It will have a maximum hold time and will account for delays to passengers aboard. When it will be suitable, the simulation will use synthetic or aggregated information instead of personal information about individual passengers.

  • How we will check whether those choices work : We will create different scenarios where each strategy will be involving for example walking time, transfer volumes, train occupancy etc. We will examine missed connections and long waits so that improvements in the average do not hide poor outcomes for some passengers. Of course, we will seek feedback from people with accessibility needs before treating the simulation's recommendations as reliable.
