FanFic to Audio 1.3.0
Version 1.3.0 — resumable audiobooks and M4B
Changes
Saved queue order and per-book presets survive app restarts. Compatible completed passages are reused after failure/cancellation instead of being narrated again. Add M4B chapter navigation and EPUB cover art, AI usage estimates and stopping budgets, drag reordering, safe multilingual previews, reliable cancellation, and corrected 192 kbps local MP3 output. Chapter counts and speech API connections are cached/reused.
Requirements
Apple silicon, macOS 14 or later, and separately installed FFmpeg with libmp3lame and AAC. Python and FanFicFare are bundled. FanFicFare, by Jim Miller (JimmXinu) and its contributors, powers story downloading, metadata, site adapters, and EPUB writing/updating. Provider keys stay in macOS Keychain.
Validation and distribution status
49 native and 36 Python tests passed. Integration tests check resume, budgets, all MP3 bitrates, and M4B chapters/cover using synthetic content and mocked providers. The packaged local speech pipeline and native queue restoration checks also passed. See Validation.
This build is ad hoc signed and not notarized. Developer ID signing and notarization scripts are included for a later distribution build. A YubiKey signing test succeeded; full-bundle Developer ID signing and Apple notarization have not been verified. Do not describe an asset as notarized unless Apple accepted it and its ticket was stapled and validated. Local evidence, user settings, keys, books, audio, and certificate files are excluded from source publication.
Recovery and estimates
Resume checkpoints contain generated story audio under the local Application Support directory. Content/settings changes invalidate reuse. The unfinished passage can still be sent and charged again. Cost limits use user-entered estimates; actual provider invoices may differ. Character budgets limit text submitted by the app. Failed/cancelled attempts count conservatively, and cached passages do not count again. See the User guide.
Downloads
Download the ZIP or DMG below, plus the SHA-256 file. The DMG includes an Applications shortcut. These packages require Apple silicon and macOS 14 or later. This release is ad hoc signed and unnotarized; see the installation guide for macOS opening instructions.
FanFic to Audio 1.2.0
FanFic to Audio 1.2.0
A native Mac app for downloading fanfiction as EPUB and converting it into audiobooks.
Story downloading is powered by FanFicFare, by Jim Miller (JimmXinu) and the FanFicFare contributors. Their engine supplies story downloads, site adapters, metadata, EPUB creation and updates, and link extraction. FanFic to Audio is an independent application, not an official FanFicFare release. See the upstream documentation and license.
New in this release
- Bulk audiobook queues with move-up/move-down controls and a preview that follows the selected or active book.
- Combine separate EPUBs into an ordered series before narration, preserving original files and resources.
- OpenAI and ElevenLabs speech APIs, with explicit macOS Keychain storage for your own keys.
- Bounded EPUB caching, improved chunk traversal, and fewer intermediate MP3 operations.
Download and install
Download FanFic-to-Audio-macOS-AppleSilicon.zip and the matching .sha256 file below. Extract it and copy FanFic to Audio.app to Applications.
Requires Apple silicon, macOS 14 or later, and a separate FFmpeg installation with libmp3lame for all MP3 exports. Python and FanFicFare are included. This build is ad hoc signed, not notarized; macOS may require an app-specific exception before opening it.
Read the installation guide and user guide. GitHub's automatic Source code archives contain source, not the ready-to-run app.
Validation and limits
35 native tests and 36 Python tests passed, with synthetic EPUBs and mocked provider responses. Local packaged download/narration and native queue/series workflows were checked. The release bundle passes signature verification. No live paid speech call or authenticated site compatibility was verified; an Intel bundle is not included.
AI previews and exports send selected text to the chosen provider and may incur its API charges. Queues last for the app session, and retry begins the audiobook again. Only unprotected text EPUBs are supported; M4B and embedded MP3 chapter markers are not implemented.
See Validation and Privacy for details.
